Post A Personal Update from Markus

So, the game is released and the great majority of people are enjoying it, that makes us very proud!

I'd like to fill you in on a personal issue today... the beta team is already aware of it, but I thought it would make sense somewhat to inform you as well because we are a community.

I have been dealing with severe stress-related health issues for about 1 1/2 years now, and it usually is worse shortly before/after the game is released. Unfortunately, medication doesn't do it anymore, so I will need to attend some sort of therapy to get better.

What does this mean for OOTP? First, do not worry, I won't be locked away I will work on patches and updates just like always, but probably not 16 hours per day The first patch is already in development, it will improve the interface (no more SISA default scout, and it remembers the preferred view on the lineups/pitching screen), fix bugs and facegen related issues. I guess we'll have it done early next week! Second, I will not be on the boards as often as I used to in the past few weeks. Third, the Cato-OOTP 2007 conversion will have to wait for a few weeks, but since I will code it so you can import your leagues history after importing it into 2007 itself, there should be no problem to convert your online league right now

OK, that'S what I wanted to get off my chest. Enjoy the game while I code the patch and try to get better!

This quote is kind of ironic isn't it?

Sorry to hear that Markus. Take some time to relax and enjoy the great game you've made. It took my sister to be seriously ill (now thankfully recovered and fine) to make me see life differently. Now I'm as laid back as they come.

You can be proud of achieving something very few people could. I don't post a great deal here but have bought every version since finding Season Ticket Baseball while on holiday in the US. I wasn't even that much of a baseball fan at that time but the game sounded good and within a day I was hooked. It was great then and to see what is has evolved to is amazing.

It's easy to say but I found that with what my sister went through it put things into perspective of what is worth worrying about and what isn't. Take your time to recover and get through this (obviously in time for ootpb 2008 ) In the meantime hope things go well for you and have a beer on me

Sorry to hear that, Markus. It doesn't look like there are any major problems so take it easy and get some help. There's plenty of people to hold down the fort while you take some time to unwind. Heck, take battists and some of the others with you. It sounds like a number of you could do with a nice long stay at one of those Scandinavian spas.

Get well soon Markus...

It must feel like having the following line

IP 8.2, H 0, BB 0, K 26, Pitches 78, Strikes 78

and then the manager comes to the mound and hooks his starting pitcher

I echo all the above good wishes Markus. I've been playing card&dice/computer text based games since Strat in the mid-'80's and for me this is THE game. Thanks for your vision and perseverance.

uhh... d00d.

You should delete all OOTP 2006 code from wherever you can find it. That should help alleviate stress.

Take care, and be cool. OOTP 2007 as it is should easily keep us going for awhile.

Sounds like a little R&R is needed; spring is here, take a nice long vacation. I too hope you feel better soon and get the help you need. Life's too short to be overly stressed.

Do what you need to do to feel better, Markus. You have a great achievement on your hands here. How soon people get a patch is not even remotely as important as making sure you're all right and not a ball of stress. I've been there and I know it's not pleasant.

So good luck and rest assured that things are going smoothly and the game has been very well received, even without a patch as of yet.

All the best, Markus. You've got a great thing going here, but it is all for not if you aren't healthy!

Take care of yourself. Rest Up, and get better!
