Question Can our daughters not play?

Can our daughters not play? It's 2026, 23 years after Annika Sorenstam played against Tiger Woods. Catherine Alexis Quinn better be allowed to play in the majors if she's good enough!

But she's 13 and it doesn't say anything about her baseball skills, it does about her 3 brothers. Might it say something later?

I don't know why you use Sorentam vs. Woods as an example. I beleive golf has a womens league and a mens league, so that matchup must have been purely exhibition. Meaning it had no significance in regards to women in sports.

Having said that, it would be nice that OOTP would allow women players and managers in the game for people like you who would want them. But please, make this an option as many people would the game to be more realistic.

Baseball Mogul has an option to include women in their "draft".

If they ban steroids etc, I wouldn't at all be surprised to see a few women excel at a few positions. Well if they don't completely do away with Title IX either..

kq76,

So you think it is steroids that is making men more athletic and able to play baseball better? Interesting.

I'm not going to take your bait and try to argue something that you are putting in my mouth. I said what I said, not what you said. I invite you to go back and read it again.

Many women can field better than some men and not all men are steroid enhanced Jose Canseco's. If I recall correctly, Ted Williams certainly was not a muscleoid, he just knew how to see the ball, hit the ball, a skillset that I don't think men are necessarily better at. And not all pitchers are fireballers. Sure, the female Barry Bonds or Alex Rodriguez is not going to be as good as her male counterpart, but I certainly think they'd be able to play in the majors. I also said, "at some positions". I'd be quite surprised if a woman played at first base as you normally put a power hitter there, but not at all surprised if one played at second base, a position where power is less important. If someone thinks that the very elite women cannot compete with men, I'd think that someone is mistaken.

Not to sound like a sexist. But I don't think Woman can compete in the MLB. If they ever did bring women in the MLB (which I don't ever see happening) they might as well just do away with softball and let girls learn how to play like the guys.

I think women can compete in the majors.

You teach a girl from when she's young and keep her in a men's league, she'll be fine.

It may be more difficult to take a star softball player and place her in the majors, but I would bet you can take a young 6 year old girl right now and turn her into a Major League caliber player.

And I feel that a woman can likely hit 30+ homers. I know many women much stronger than men. I know women much stronger than me and I never had a problem showcasin some power here and then in highschool practice. Not sayin I was Barry Bonds...more like David Bell probably, but if I could do it at my weight, then I'm sure a woman can do it too.

Perhaps, but even if girls could make it to the majors I don't see them really succeeding too much. They should just form a WMLB like the WNBA if they ever wanted to play "baseball" instead of softball.

In most cases I would agree with kq76 but here I feel you are wrong. The reason is you are not talking about elite athletic women competing with men. The real issue is elite athletic women competing with elite athletic men.

Lets look at it in terms or simple math.
There are 276 Million people in America.
Lets say half of them are men. Most studies suggest a 51/49 split with there being more women then men.
Now we have, lets call it 135 million men. Of those lets say 1/3 third are of the age where they can play professional baseball taking into account factors such as baby boomers and things like that.
Now we have 45 million. I will be very generous and take away 1 million other athletes in the USA playing other professional (highest level of competition) sports.
Now we have 44 Million.
Of those 44 Million men how many play professional baseball in the MLB? Lets say the average team uses 50 players a year, once again being very generous.
50 x 30 = 1500
1500 hundred out of 44 Million!!!
There is no way a top level athletic woman could even compete with a top level athletic man in any sport. Men, on average, are just physically more developed then women. That's not sexiest it just is what it is.
When I was in the Army I had to take a PT (Physical Training) Test every month. Guess what? Women and men had different goals to reach on the test. I had to do at least 45 push-ups while a woman of the same age only had to do 15. Is that sexist? No. Just a basic physical difference between men and women.

And just as a side note: The MLB is NEVER!!!! going to ban steroids. Big powerful players mean more homeruns. More homeruns mean more fans come to see games. More fans means more money for owners. The owners of MLB are never going to make a decision that takes money out of their pockets. Especially with a substance that doesn't kill right away. Just my $0.02 cents.

goterps that is kind of what I was trying to say. But on another point if you think about it. Women, if trained right can be a great single hitter. It doesn't really take much physical ability. On the other hand, the probabilty of a woman major league pitcher is next to nill.

I wasn't trying to start an argument. I had a question mark at the end of my sentence which meant I wanted clarification on what you meant.

You did mention steroids for some reason and I assumed that was what was holding a few women back from entering the sport. You know what the say about assuming.

IRL there may be a couple of women in the MLB in 20 years or more. I really doubt they could be anything more than pinch hitters, defensive replacements, pinch runners, and publicity stunts.

Women are just not made to be able to do some athletic sports the way men are. That isn't an insult necessarily. Heck, I'm not made to do much of anything athletic. It sucks, but that is the way it is.

Sports I see women being able to compete with men:

Auto Racing, Bowling, billiards...

I think if they want to play baseball then they should get their own league. I for one will not watch it, if it is anywhere near as painful as watching a WNBA game I won't be a fan..

I don't think a Women's MLB would have success. Personally, I don't see a woman playing major league ball anytime soon. Minor Leagues, I doubt it.
