Forsberg now a Predator...

... and Christ, what a price they paid: Scottie Upshall (6th overall pick in 2002), Ryan Parent (their 1st-round pick from two years ago), *and* their 1st- and 3rd-round draft picks this summer. All this for a rental player who is undeniably brilliant at his best but who routinely misses at least a quarter of his team's games due to various injuries.

Have these spects underperformed? I don't know anything other than their draft positions, which I see here.

I can't imagine that the Flyers could have done any better than this. Especially when you consider that Forsberg could potentially resign with them in the offseason.

Well, so much for the Wings winning the division.

I agree. When I saw the players they gave up I thought it must be a mistake or maybe just a rumour. Sure, Forsberg was a great player (maybe even the best in the league at times) and he could be again, but holy cow! All that for a rental and one who is often injured at that? I can only believe this is a last ditch effort to try and get some people interested in their team before they're forced to move. Well, that and trying to win the Cup of course, but good luck in securing that.

Incidentally, today I read a piece on the possibility of the Preds moving to Seattle. It was just a Sonics group looking at the possibility of acquiring an NHL team to share a new building, but still, I'd really like to see another team close to Vancouver some day (Portland has also often been brought up as a possibility). It'd be especially nice to see as good a team as the Preds too. Nashville might not appreciate them, but I'm sure that the Pacific Northwest would. A team here or another in Canada, either would be great IMO.

I don't think Upshall has lived up to his billing, but that doesn't mean he won't be an NHLer. He's just unlikely to turn into a 1st-line guy. He isn't all that durable either, AFAIK.

Parent I had to check out on Hockey's Future; he's projected to be a top-4 defenseman, and he's been selected captain in the various national/league select teams he's played in. He'll turn 20 shortly, so he's still a couple of years away from the NHL; anything can happen, but even though he doesn't look like a future HoF'er, he does look like a pretty good guy to have on your prospects list.

And then there are those two draft picks, and on the other side of the scale, there's the chance of having Peter Forsberg for anything between a couple of days and 4 months.

Hey, a glimmer of hope in an otherwise dismal season!

I think "dismal" is far too generous of a description.

Nashville should consider sitting the guy for most of what's left of the season and bring him back just for the playoffs. It would really be the worst-case scenatio that a rental player gets hurt before he does what he's been traded for.

On the other side, I'm glad the Habs didn't overpay to try and get him. We're not on pace to make the playoffs anyway

I've always been a fan of Forsberg ever since I liked hockey way back in the day. Him and Joe Sakic were the best.

You're too young to use "back in the day."
