I spoke too soon. I found two more files that may be relevant. They are located in Library/Application Support/MindVision. (MindVision is a company that makes installer programs on the Mac... maybe on the PC, too; I don't know).
One is a file of type "Unix Executable File" (which makes some sense since the Mac OS is basically a flavor of Unix). It is called "eSellerateEngine (Carbon)". I think if this file is corrupt it might cause a problem. The other is a text file called "PUB0366109890". It seems to have the CD key in it, so that you probably should keep a copy of somewhere, if you decide to delete this one. Hope all this helps a bit. |

Just FYI, I'm going to close out this issue if we don't hear back from anyone experiencing the issue... I'll PM magicotter just in case he stopped paying attention, uh, several months ago.

Still listening. I'll give that a try tonight or tomorrow when I get a free moment.
I've got a good feeling. I don't have time to play these days, so that means it will work, right? Update soon. -Scot |

OK. Didn't get a chance to try this out until tonight.
No luck whatsoever. I've tried removing and deleting the various suggested files without any change. I'm working off a newly downloaded copy, so it's unregistered and when I click on the OOTP icon I get the software delivery wizard. Canceling does nothing, it does not launch the demo program as it does on a functioning machine. Now, if the problem is the "esellerate engine (carbon)" file, then each time OOTP is started, (when the wizard launches) it recreates that file-- presumably when delivery wizard launches. I can't delete the file while the wizard is up, since the "esellerate engine (carbon)" file is in use, so if that file is actually the problem, I have no way of getting rid of it. Well, it felt go to delete some stuff at any rate. -Scot |

I'm wracking my brain here. This is bizarre. Another straw to grasp at in the mean time: Are you running 10.4.8 yet? If not, or for that matter, even if you are, you may want to try (re)installing it with the combo updater (which installs the whole 10.4.X update instead of just patching .7 to .8, for example).
Have you had any other strange problems with your system lately? |

Whew,
Sorry, I'm back in school now and I'm way short of time, so I apologize about how haphazard my check ins are. I'm still on 10.4.7, I'll try the combo updater and see if that does anything. I haven't noticed the system doing anything else odd. Honestly, I'm pretty much on the internet, filemaker and Office these days. I've had a little trouble with a game program called Europa universalis 2 crashing, but that's such a buggy piece of software, I don't tend to worry about it. The "esellerate engine (carbon)" file can be deleted. But if I launch OOTP2006 and then check the Library/ App folder the "esellerate engine (carbon)" file is back. When I launch OOTP2006, I'm launching the licensing software, so I'm assuming the licensing software replaces the deleted file. So if that's the problem, I don't have anyway to work around it, because it won't let me delete it while the program is up and it seems to be replaced immediately. OK, I'll try to get up to OS 10.4.8 and start again, give me a couple of days, I'm on dial-up here, unless I get a chance to bring the mini into one of the labs. And I'll try to pay more attention and get back to you quicker. I do appreciate the assistance. -Scot |

OK, I guess I'm on the every two month update plan.
Anyway... I did the combo updater and got up to 10.4.8 No luck. Deleted OOTP, reinstalled it, no luck deleted the files previously suggested, no luck Rooted around with my unofficial mac advisor on the phone and tried to find anything that might be causing problems, but no luck. Got the demo to work on an identical machine with essentially the same software installed-- well, got it to launch, which is worth breaking out the party hats for. So my machine's got some bizarre conflict or corrupted file buried somewhere. Which is what we already knew. Will keep trying and let you know. -Scot |

Mac Version .. cant launch after install of new 1.0.3 patch
Howdy all, I had this same problem back at 1.0.1 and eventually was fixed by downloading again. I am running MacOS 10.4.8 and OOTP 1.0.2 and just discovered a new patch 1.0.3 to download and install... I should of known better as now I cant launch OOTP at all. I get to the esellerate screen and hit cancel ... the screen goes entirely black with no options to click on anything. I cant even quit this screen and have to force quit it. I have downloaded the 1.0.3 patch twice and installed it twice with identical results. It just should not be this hard to get an update... thanks Bryce

Just a thought, have you checked the permissions for all these files? Sometimes the UNIX permission sets don't come through properly after an install. You might need to log in to a terminal session and perform a chmod 777 to the app as well as any supporting files to get ootp to work properly.
