Since I have been GM of the Rams, our record against the Nevada Dragons is 108-72 capped off by a 15-3 year in 2018.

And that doesn't even include our unbeated record against you in the playoffs.

However, to be fair, you've been rebuilding for some time now.

Team Record: 19-31
Sim Record: 2-8

Games
5/21 - 5-4 loss @ Illinois - Oscar Oakley stole his 800th and 801st career stolen bases, had 3 hits, a run, and an RBI. Crosswell lost his 7th game of the season.
5/22 - 2-1 loss @ Illinois - O'Parra pitched 6 innings of shutout ball only to give the ball to the bullpen and let our closer (Ward Chee) give up a 2-run homerun to pinch hitter Jamie Smith (and his .165 average) to lose it in the 9th. We just didn't close them down.
5/23 - 5-1 loss @ Illinois - Our offensive woes continue. Oberlin and Keonig each had 2 hits.
5/24 - 8-4 loss vs Minnesota (11 innings) - Our perfect streak in extra-inning games comes to an end. Billy-Bob Suggs gives up 4 runs in the top of the 11st to seal the deal and waste Long's great pitching performance (7.1 IP, 7 H, 1 ER). Steve McLaughlin had 3 hits.
5/25 - 2-1 loss vs Minnesota - Chris Steelman pitched wonderfully (8 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 7 K), but got zero help from his offense. He had to do it himself hitting a double and then later scoring on a sacrifice fly by Francisco Diaz.
5/26 - 4-3 WIN vs Minnesota - Amos Oberlin hit a 2-out, 2-run walk off homerun to spoil David Echegaray's chance at win #296.
5/27 - Off Day
5/28 - 8-5 WIN vs Texas - Chet McKie goes 6 innings giving up only 1 run. 6 different guys bat in a run but Rafael Souza almost gave it right back by giving up 4 runs in the top of the 9th.
5/29 - 12-0 loss vs Texas - Nothing pretty about this game. Paul Long goes 4.1 innings (5 ER) giving up 8 of their 19 hits. Walsh, Koenig, and Mingo (a walk) were the only ones to get on base for us.
5/30 - 3-0 loss vs Texas - Another 9 innings without scoring a run. Diaz, Kinchen, and Walsh (2) each had hits. Steelman had another nice game (7 IP, 3ER, 3 H), but it was wasted because WE CAN'T HIT!
5/31 - 7-3 loss vs Kansas - They spot us three runs, but Crosswell decides, "Hey, only I can give up runs when I am pitching!" and gives up 7 of his own. Mingo got on base 4 times in this game. If only people would hit him in (he did score once).

Leads Team - Whether it be good or bad
I don't know how McKie is doing it, but he's making due. He doesn't have ace stats, more like 3rd or 4th starter stats, but for us, he's been an ace. I'm a little disapointed in Paul Long's rough start. He's young, so I'm not going to go trading him or anything, but much like my current job, he's just been a little disapointing. Our starters are averaging 5 and a half innings per start, so unfortunately, having 7 guys in the bullpen was the right call (and they are STILL being overworked).

Leads Team - With a big enough sample size
I threw McKie in here because I wanted to show you who had the highest Slugging percentage on the team. Yes, that's right, our #1 pitcher. He also leads our team in On-Base Percentage. What else can I say? We need more offense.

Mileston Watch
Oakley stole his 800th base of his career in the first game of the sim. That puts him 7th all time.

You don't like walking either! You don't have a problem running though.

34 stolen bases this year for a 64% stolen base percentage. Not great, but I like to run. Too bad we are probably running ourselves out of some runs.

Have you tried trading Oakley? You mentioned him as your best trade bait but apparently he didn't like the rumors, so far turning in a poor season, and he isn't getting younger. He's got his 800 SBs, so I wonder if on a losing team, he's got anything to play for. A starter would be nice, even if AAA level. Good read so far Y0DA!

Over the course of a season, I don't think it correlates to many runs. 20 maybe? I know 75% is the minimum success rate to be considered of any value.

Team Record: 22-37
Sim Record: 3-6

Games
6/1 - 3-2 loss vs Kansas - We begin June the same way that we ended May, with a loss. O'Parra pitched well (6.1 IP, 1 R), but aside from Jake Kinchen's Homerun and Vin Koenig's 3 hits, there was little offense.
6/2 - 6-5 WIN vs Kansas - Leandro Mingo (and his .332 OBP) walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to win this one. Too many offensive contributers to name, but James Walsh was Player of the Game with 3 hits, a run, and an RBI.
6/3 - Off Day
6/4 - 3-0 loss @ Wisconsin - The off day did nothing for our offense. We managed 5 hits, with only a Richard Jerkins double going for extra bases. Paul Long was the unfortunate losing pitcher.
6/5 - 8-1 loss @ Wisconsin - We managed a run off of six hits, but only one of those hits mattered (a homerun by Jake Kinchen). Christopher Steelman and Jose Langlois "helped" by combining to give up 8 runs in 6.2 innings.
6/6 - 5-0 loss @ Wisconsin - Our offense again does nothing (Diaz and Mingo each had 2 hits) as we complete the series with Wisconsin scoring a total of 1 run. Crosswell drops his record to 1-9.
6/7 - 2-1 loss @ Nevada (10 innings) - Ward Chee gets the loss by giving up the run in the bottom of the 10th. Kenneth Biel scores our lone run in the top of the 6th after pinch running for Oberlin.
6/8 - 3-2 loss @ Nevada - John O'Parra allows 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning, and we just can't come back from that. Vin Koenig's 2-run double in the top of the 5th inning helped, but couldn't put us over the top.
6/9 - 5-3 WIN @ Nevada - Paul Long wins his 3rd game of the season and Jake Kinchen extends his hitting streak to 10 games with 3 hits in this one. Chee gets his 7th save of the season.
6/10 - 3-0 WIN @ Nevada - Steelman, Souza, Stier, and Chee combine to shut out Nevada (with Steelman allowing just 2 hits in 7.1 innings AND wins Player of the Game). Oscar Oakley scored 2 of our runs and Steve McLaughlin had a 2-run pinch-hit single in the top of the 9th to add some insurance which allowed Ward Chee to come on and record the save.

So Washington is building up a HUGE lead here, and it doesn't look like they are going to give it up anytime soon as they just completed a big trade over the weekend detailed in the next post.

We are on a one-way track to Nowheresville this season. Not that this has changed in the last week or anything. Just thought I'd keep you updated.

The unfortunate thing about our pitching staff is that they aren't doing too badly. Sure, they aren't championship calliber, but the front three are pretty solid. We just have no offense to help these guys out. The 2-14 record by Crosswell and O'Parra is just ugly, any way you look at it.

Could I use a three-man rotation?

Trade News
So Washington (most recently the 2018 Champion) and Florida (the 2020 and reigning NPBL Champion) pulled off a big deal. Florida is selling off parts. Their division is pretty competitive and the GM (who took over the team midseason last year) wants to rebuild.

The big pieces of the trade both went to Washington. Florida got some prospects and a couple draft picks. But these two are what is going to keep Washington on top of our division for quite a while:

Bill Worm - C - 29 year old 4.5 star catcher. The big deal with this guy is his ability to get on base. Currently, his on base percentage is .475. He was a 1st round (1st overall) draft pick in 2014.

Joel Huertas - 2B - 29 year old 4.5 star second baseman. He's not exactly hitting as well as he was the past couple years as he's taken a bit of a talent hit. But this was the Bluefish's 1st round (1st overall) draft pick in 2012.

We'll see if Florida regains any of the value that they gave up.

As for my opinion of Florida's rebuild? They absolutely are trying to rebuild too early. And with a few of the teams in their division being very young (and very good), it's going to be a looong road back for Florida.

Thanks NP! This post actually got my butt in gear to try to see what I can get for Oakley. I'll let you all know if anything develops.

Yeah, I've heard that. I'm just addicted to speed (not that we have that anymore). Perhaps I might just tone it down a little bit.

I don't necessarily think you'd have to do that, considering O'Parra has dropped his ERA by 2 runs over the last few sims. Granted, it hasn't translated to wins - perhaps due to his lack of endurance - but it is a step in the right direction if you have no other options. Crosswell's peripheral stats hurt him more to suggest a 4-man rotation instead, keeping O'Parra.

Team Record: 24-44
Sim Record: 2-7

Games
6/11 - 7-3 loss @ Utah - Jermaine Crosswell lost his 8th straight decision and brought his overall record down to 1-10 while Jerkins scored 2 runs on 2 hits.
6/12 - 7-6 loss @ Utah - We scored 3 runs in the 8th inning to tie it but then Jose Langlois gave up a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning that we couldn't come back from. Jerkins came through again with 2 hits, 2 RBI, and a run scored.
6/13 - 3-2 loss @ Utah - O'Parra pitched decently (5.2 IP, 3 ER), but it wasn't enough to stop the Scorpions. Solo homeruns by Koenig and Oakley were all we got for runs scored.
6/14 - 3-2 WIN vs Washington (10 innings) - We finally win a 1-run game this sim. Paul Long pitched beautifully (7 IP, 0 ER, 1 R, 6 H, 5 K, 2 BB) to win player of the game. The real story is Chris Baker pinch running for Steve McLaughlin in the bottom of the 10th after McLaughlin singled. With two outs, Baker (14 stolen bases in 5 previous years), our backup catcher, then proceeds to steal second base and scored the game winning run on Francisco Diaz's single.
6/15 - 4-3 loss vs Washington - The Griff's hit us back with a 1-run game as Steelman allows all their runs on 9 hits in 7 innings. Koenig had 3 hits.
6/16 - 9-6 loss vs Washington - Jake Kinchen (8) and Oscar Oakley (7) each hit homeruns and Oakley acquired two more hits, but it wasn't enough as Crosswell and Langlois each allowed 4 runs.
6/17 - Off Day
6/18 - 8-3 WIN @ Idaho (12 innings) - We are 6-2 in extra inning affairs this year. That's got to count for something, right? Right? Steve McLaughlin hit a 3-run homerun in the bottom of the top of the 12th to cap off a 5 run inning that Idaho just wasn't going to come back from. McKie allowed 3 runs in 6 innings, but our bullpen allowed 0 runs in their 6 innings.
6/19 - 5-1 loss @ Idaho - Oscar Oakley hit his 8th homerun of the year in the top of the ninth for our only run and one of only 3 hits all day. Paul Long allowed 5 runs in 5.1 innings.
6/20 - 5-0 loss @ Idaho - Our offense sputters again as we get only 4 singles and 2 walks (Walsh was the only one with 1 of each). Steelman allows 4 runs (only 2 earned) in 6 innings of work.

Just as a note: I have two 1B, neither of whome are in my starting lineup, because Oberlin is a shortstop that I stuck at first as he was hot and I didn't really have a spot for him at SS. I may have to put McLaughlin back at first next sim, and I may have to give Carmona a shot somewhere (maybe at 3rd). We really don't have much of a bench, huh?

Yeah, O'Parra is going to move into the 4 spot if I can remember to do that before next sim (computer problems over here, so I have to do it via instructions).

Kinchen Dealt for Prospect

Arguably our best hitter, beloved Jake Kinchen has been sent to the Maryland Admirals of the Founding Father's League where he will occupy the #4 spot in the lineup on a Maryland team that is 3 games up on the Wild Card race.

A former 1st round draft pick, Kinchen was just coming into his own this year batting .260 with 8 homeruns and 30 RBI in 68 games (leads team in HR, RBI, and games played). The 8 homeruns ties his career high.

So what did we get in return?

Would you believe only a third round draft choice from the previous draft?

Well, its true.

20 year old starting pitcher Salvatore Perez was the third pick in the 3rd round in this past draft. He recently got a big bump in his talent and is now the 34th ranked prospect in the league. I'm really excited about this acquisition. It's nothing earth shaking, but Perez could be a pretty solid pitcher sooner rather than later for us. Here are his stats so far this year with Maryland:
Code:
Year G GS W L SV ERA IP HA R	ER HR BB K CG SHO WHIP	BABIP
2021, AA 13 13 7 3 0	2.98 87.2 62 36	29 5 44 43 0	0 1.21 .220
2021, AAA 2 2 0 0 0	6.30 10.0 14 7 7 0 6 11 0	0 2.00 .438

I like the batting average against, but that BB:K ratio at AA is a little scary. Still, in my opinion, you can never have too many arms in the system.

My thoughts exactly. To me, Kinchen wasn't going to help us out too much. In the short term, yes. But by the time this team is built to win (say 3-5 years), he'll be passed his prime. Plus he can't field, and I like me some good fielding middle infielders (not that Koenig can field either).

I also really like pitching. It killed me to trade Lamela (just won pitcher of the month over in the FFL and has a 1.26 ERA), Suarez (9-7, 2.97), and Perl (5-6, 4.06), but I just didn't think that I could build up a championship team with all of my big bats fading and nothing coming up through the minors. I'm liking what I've got building down there now with James, Herald, and Perez. Long is going to take some time, but he'll straighten out eventually.

Team Record: 26-51
Sim Record: 2-7

Games
6/21 - 11-4 loss @ California - Kyle Warner makes his first error as Rams shortstop, but he does have an RBI single in his major league debut. John O'Parra got hit up for 6 runs in 0.2 innings. So much for moving him up to the #4 spot in our pitching order. Leandro Mingo also had 3 hits.
6/22 - 9-3 loss @ California - Crosswell lost his 9th straight decision and Vin Koenig scored 2 runs as we got crushed by California.
6/23 - 3-1 loss @ California - Mingo was the only one with multiple hits. McKie pitched well enough to win, but our offense was really lacking in this one with just 7 hits.
6/24 - 7-0 loss @ California - 4 hits in total for us (with Diaz getting two of them). Paul Long get torched for 7 runs on 7 hits in 2.1 innings.
6/25 - 3-2 loss @ Nevada - Kyle Warner hit the first homerun of his career and James Walsh scored the tying run in the top of the ninth only to have Jose Langlois give that run right back in the bottom of the inning.
6/26 - 5-1 loss @ Nevada - O'Parra pitches effectively and Kyle Warner hits his second homerun in as many days, but its not enough as Armando Campana holds us to just 1 run on 6 hits (to raise his record to 4-11... wow, we can't even beat bad pitchers).
6/27 - 17-11 WIN @ Nevada (11 innings) - We used our entire bullpen in this one with Suggs getting the win with 2 perfect innings of work. 6 runs crossed the plate in the 11th inning on 2 doubles (Diaz and our pitcher, Suggs), a triple (Mingo) and a whole host of walks. Here's how our top three did: Mingo (3-5, 3 runs, 3 hits, 3 RBI, 2 BB), Diaz (4-7, 4 runs, 4 hits, 1 RBI), and Koenig (4-5, 4 runs, 4 hits, 5 RBI, 1 BB).
6/28 - Off Day
6/29 - 7-2 loss vs Illinois - Long pitches well (yet still gets the loss), but our bullpen blew this one giving up 4 runs in two innings (Ward Chee being the main offender giving up 2 ER in 0.1 innings, which is why he isn't my closer anymore). Diaz hit his 5th homerun of the year.
6/30 - 10-5 WIN vs Illinois - McKie evens out his record at 5-5 with a not so hot performance. Our offense was just clicking. Mingo (3 RBI), Koenig (3 hits, 2 RBI), and Oakley (3 hits, 3 RBI) all starred in this one with Oakley winning the PotG.

Steelman has been our best pitcher, we just need to give him some run support. If I hadn't moved Crosswell down, he could have made a run at 20 losses.

Also, I should note, Arnie Stier is now our closer. He's pitching better than anyone in the pen, so that's where he should be.

The trade of Jake Kinchen hurt our power supply, not that we had much of a power supply to begin with. I moved Carmona into the lineup to see what he could do because Jerkins was just killing us. Jerkins may make it back into the lineup, we'll see how Carmona does.

Warner had a decent start as a Ram. He came over to Colorado as part of the Jacob Perl deal. He's a much better fielder than Kinchen ever was, but not as good with the bat. He's not the answer there, but he'll hold the ground until I can find something to go there (or until I bring up Naldo Reyes, who is currently in AA).

Still the #1 ranked minor league system in the league. Hennen, Massengill, and possibly Schuh are going to make the jump to the bigs later this year, or if not, definitely by next spring as half of my outfield is retiring.

Once he entered their lineup for good, he tore it up. It will remain to be seen whether or not this was a good trade. I tend to prefer pitching to hitting, and I felt that Perez has more upside than Kinchen at this point.

Team Record: 31-55
Sim Record: 5-4

Games
7/1 - 5-4 loss vs Illinois - Steelman pitches well, but was kept in a little too long allowing 3 runs in the 7th and 8th innings to allow Illinois to tie the game up. Leroy Briscoe let up the winning run.
7/2 - 5-1 WIN vs New Mexico - John O'Parra went 6.2 innings allowing only 1 earned run to earn the win. Rafael Souza went 2 innings for the save. The big hitting story this game was Kyle Warner and his 3-4 day with 2 runs.
7/3 - 4-0 WIN vs New Mexico - Paul Long pitches a complete game, 3-hit shutout (with 3 Ks) and James Walsh has 3 hits, including a double and a triple, and 3 RBI.
7/4 - 2-1 WIN vs New Mexico - Alex Acevedo, fresh from AAA, pitches a 7 inning, 5 hit, 1 run gem to win player of the game in his very first major league appearance. He doesn't get the win, however, as Nori Mutsuhito grounds into a fielders choice which allows Kenneth Biel to come across with the winning run.
7/5 - 3-2 WIN vs Texas - We were up 3-0 early on and never allowed them to catch back up. Chet McKie allows 4 hits and 1 run in 7 innings and James Walsh again stars for us with 3 hits, 2 RBI, and a run for himself.
7/6 - 7-5 loss vs Texas (10 innings) - Arnie Stier allows 2 runs on 3 hits while causing zero outs to occur in the top of the 10th. Kind of wastes a 3-5 day by Walsh (3 RBI and a Run scored).
7/7 - 6-4 loss vs Texas - We just lost this one. Our pitching wasn't spectacular, O'Parra (4 runs) and Chee (2 runs) were the main culprits for the loss. Koenig went 3 for 3 and Oakley hit his 9th homerun of the year.
7/8 - Off Day
7/9 - 2-0 WIN @ Minnesota - Paul Long goes 6 innings allowing 6 hits, but zero runs. The bullpen finishes off the job. James Walsh (2) and Oscar Oakley (10) each hit solo homeruns.
7/10 - 3-1 loss @ Minnesota - When you don't score runs, you can't win. McKie allowed 3 runs in 6 innings, but the lone offense came when Richard Jerkins had a pinch-hit double and eventually scored on Jesus Carmona's fly out.

We are 3 games better than our pythagorean record. Yay! Seriously though, it looks like the races aren't even close. Wisconsin and Kansas have comanding leads to grab the spots in the East. No one is touching Washington. Idaho has a comfy lead for the Wild Card, and more than likely won't give it up.

Where to start?

Long pitched out of his mind this sim allowing 0 runs in his 2 starts. Hopefully that's a sign of things to come.

I brought up Alex Acevedo to take over Crosswell's spot in the rotation. A donkey could throw better than that guy, so I thought I'd give someone else a shot. Acevedo was my (late) first round pick back in 2019. He never developed like I had hoped, mostly playing in AA for his time in the minors. But now he's getting pitching with the big boys. He'll eat up some innings for us, which is definitely a good thing. Especially considering that...

SAD NEWS:
I got an e-mail this week from Jose Langlois declaring that he was retiring effective immediately. His last game was on June 27th in the 17-11 win over his former team, the Nevada Dragons. He went 1.1 innings and allowed no hits or runs. We lost a good one in Langlois. He'll probably get nominated for the Hall of Fame, but probably won't be elected.

Just a quick blast of love for newly retired Jose Langlois. I'm going to miss the guy. Here are some of his career highlights:

An All-Star in 2005, 2014, and 2016.

His best season was the year he was traded from Nevada to our Colorado franchise. He didn't even make the All-Star team. I guess that could be because of his Johan Santana second half. Here is his line:
Code:
Year Age Tm Lg W L Pct G GS CG SHO SV IP H ER HR BB SO ERA OAVG OOBP OSLG OOPS PWS

I'm bummed he retired as well. He was excellent for us in his 3 seasons in Nevada.

Team Record: 32-61
Sim Record: 1-6 (and a Great Explorers League loss in the All Star Game, which means we won't be getting home field in the National Cup Series (not that we were getting there anyway))

Games
7/11 - 7-1 loss @ Minnesota - Steelman gets shelled for his 11th loss of the season. David Echegaray gets his 298th win of his career. Steelman did provide pretty much all of our offense with an RBI double.
7/12 - Off Day
7/13 - All star Game - GEL 4-2 loss vs FFL - Surprise, surprise, not ONE Colorado Ram made the All-Star team. But what was more surprising was that not one ex-Ram made the team either. Washington had 9 players on the team. That's crazy, like solo-league crazy. The player of the game was RF Ron Guinan, a 23 year old from Virginia. He went 2-3 with 2 RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base.
7/14 - Off Day
7/15 - 5-1 loss vs Nevada - Vin Koenig and Leandro Mingo each had 3 hits, but the rest of the offense couldn't do squat (1 other hit) which wasted Paul Long's good outing (7.1 innings, 11 hits, 3 ER).
7/16 - 3-2 loss vs Nevada (11 innings) - Chet McKie had a fabulous outing (7 IP, 6 hits, 2 ER), but our bullpen (namely Leroy Briscoe) couldn't hold it together in extras.
7/17 - 6-5 loss vs Nevada - Steelman gets manhandled again. Kyle Warner increased his hitting streak to 6 games and Baker and Jerkins each had a homerun.
7/18 - 9-4 loss vs Nevada - So much for Alex Acevedo's good start last sim. In this game, he went 7.2 innings, giving up 11 hits and 6 Runs. Oscar Oakley did hit his 11th homerun of the season, a 3-run shot in the 3rd inning.
7/19 - 3-0 WIN vs California - John O'Parra goes 6 shutout innings (5 hits, a career high 7 K's) and MacKenzie and Stier finish the Lions off. Kyle Warner goes 3-4 with 2 runs and a RBI to lead the offense.
7/20 - 5-4 loss vs California - Long has another solid outing (7 IP, 6 hits, 1 R), but Arnie Stier lets up 2 hits and the deciding run in the bottom of the 9th. James Walsh had a 3-run homerun in the top of the 8th.

Standings
Since we are halfway through the season, I figured you should get a look at the entire league.

Paul Long has really turned it on recently. That bodes well for the future. We just need to score some runs for the guy.

Divell was brought up before the sim to replace Langlois, but hasn't pitched yet.

I've been very surprised by Warner's hitting. I don't expect it to keep up. This is me being a realist folks. He just shouldn't be hitting that well.

After having a pretty good sim after we traded him, Jake's July has been pretty dreadful. He'll snap out of it though.
