Congratulations, Twelvefield. Come back and get started on your next 1,000 (Hall of Fame status now beckons on the horizon) when you have sobered up.

Of course, 2007 will not be another rewrite. The reason I had to rewrite 2006 from scratch was that is was nearly impossible to improve OOTP 6.5 any further, the code/database/architecture just had too many shortcomings.

I cannot comment on a release date, but any sane human being should know that we're shooting for an earlier release this year

Ah, the time-honored marketing technique of keeping 'em in the dark, building the suspense, making them want it even more . . .

Early next year, is that January 1 or so, a mere 26 days from now?

Oh well, we can always reread this thread:

Okay, maybe I'm an idiot, but if that was your 1000th, why does your post count read '998'?

Yikes! He's going to go around the bend when he sees that. He was at 1,000 this morning, I saw it myself. Sometimes I think what happens is a thread gets deleted or moved to OT by the moderators, you lose the posts.

Now Twelvefield, we can work this out. You can do this. Just reply to this post and do a "dola" follow up and you're back to being an All Star Starter. And, you get to celebrate all over again!

If you look down in the suggestions forum, you can see the start of the text team's work for 2007.

What the...?! Well, this is just nuts. My post count did go down! Maybe Superman spun the planet backwards again -- that would account for it.

It's going to take me a while to come up with something really profound for post #1,000 Take Two (cheering sounds from the forum! Twelvefield silenced!! ) so I guess just stay tuned for further announcements...

Just so you know, Shaun Sullivan has started bringing up (in a very general way) PureSim 2008

OK, with the final release of PureSim 2007 imminent (next build -- which is pretty much unchanged from the last), we are planning for the PureSim 2008 release. I have the suggestions collected and have been coding on the PS 2008 branch for a while.

One thing I think PureSim has always benefitted from was vigorous support from the user community. So, in a nod to PureSim's past, the PureSim 2008 beta will be wide open to any owners of PureSim 2007! That's right, if you own PureSim 2007, you'll be able to download beta builds, offer suggestions, find crash bugs etc.

I will do this in a way that does not impact the official PureSim 2007 install in any way. In other words, you will be able to run them side by side. While the PureSim 2008 Beta will be time-limited, by participating in the beta you will not be obligated to purchase PureSim 2008. I just want to have as many intelligent/rabid PureSimmers to pull this thing apart as we make tweaks and add features. Hopefully you'll be compelled to purchase the final version, but the testing help dwarfs any potential negatives.

If I was to characterize my goals for this year's PureSim, I'm leaning towards adornments to tried-and-true features, more polish and then some new stuff. As you guys all know, I pretty much update the game year round anyway, so this is a natural extension of that process. We are not looking at a re-write here, it's just a continued evolution.

Stay tuned for info on the final release of PS 2007 and the opening of the PS 2008 beta!

Shaun

He's perched again on the edge of greatness, at 999 posts. What will Twelvefield say for his 1,000th post? Will it be as great as the Gettysburg Address? The suspense is awful. Stay tuned.

Let's see...

Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of it, as a final resting place for those who died here, that the nation might live. This we may, in all propriety do. But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow, this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have hallowed it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here; while it can never forget what they did here.

It is rather for us the living, we here be dedicated to the great task remaining before us--that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here gave the last full measure of devotion--that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth."

Actually, to be serious for a moment, this is considered by many to be the greatest speech ever given in the English language. Myself included.

Now, Twelvefield, can you match that?

I think somebody's messing with you, Twelvefield. You were at 1,000, fell back to 998, moved up again with this post to 999, and now you're back to 998 again. There's a conspiracy afoot here . . . If I were you, I'd alert the media and demand an investigation.
