Here it is then. But as you said, very early days, so it's probably too early to use a projection accurately.
Plus obviously teams currently under- or over-achieving could carry on that way, even if the stats suggest otherwise. Code:
P Pts Pct. Pyt. % Future Projection Manchester United 11 28 0.848 0.943 70 98 Chelsea 11 25 0.758 0.833 62 87 Bolton Wanderers 11 20 0.606 0.545 40 60 Portsmouth 11 19 0.576 0.727 54 73 Arsenal 10 18 0.600 0.841 65 83 Aston Villa 11 18 0.545 0.679 50 68 Everton 11 17 0.515 0.690 51 68 Liverpool 11 17 0.515 0.565 42 59 Fulham 11 16 0.485 0.406 30 46 Tottenham Hotspur 11 15 0.455 0.368 27 42 Wigan Athletic 10 14 0.467 0.571 44 58 Reading 11 13 0.394 0.289 21 34 Blackburn Rovers 11 12 0.364 0.334 25 37 Manchester City 11 12 0.364 0.235 17 29 West Ham United 11 11 0.333 0.321 24 35 Middlesbrough 11 11 0.333 0.273 20 31 Watford 11 9 0.273 0.349 26 35 Sheffield United 11 9 0.273 0.148 11 20 Newcastle United 11 8 0.242 0.235 17 25 Charlton Athletic 11 8 0.242 0.215 16 24 Last edited by Sdpm100; 11-06-2006 at 04:28 AM. |

Why is Bolton tagged to take such a fall?

They just don't score many goals. Only ten this season to date (in 11 games), and that doesn't lend itself to winning many games. Based on their goal difference of +1 they are certainly over-achieving to have collected two-thirds of the points available to them (20 of 33).
Although that could be tempered slightly by the 4-0 loss to Manchester United a week ago. Indeed if that had been just a 1-0 loss, the projection would have them getting to 72 points. |

I wonder what it would be like to try to use this formula on a sport that plays few games like the NFL? Its about the half-way point in the season and I bet the predictions the formula makes hold true.

Not being a stattie, I'm not so sure either. I wonder what would happen if we apply the forumlas to coaches and track their careers?
