I'll take your word for it. I've never heard of them, was just passing on what I'd heard.

Oh boy...occasionally, they do a real good interview. But their knowledge is nowhere near what they think it is.
Look up Mad Dog Russo on Wikipedia sometime...his Doggie-isms are quite funny, but give you an idea of what you're dealing with here. GH |

They had Macha for four years as a bench coach, why didn't they know that this guy was a "poor communicator"?
And if he was a "poor communicator", why let him go and hire him back? |

That's what puzzled me last year. They obviously had issues with each other. Going back to that couldn't have been good for either. You can say, "well, they got to the ALCS", but how much better could they have done not only in the short term but long as well with better chemistry? It makes me think Beane really didn't think the guys that were available, presumably the same guys who are available now in the organization, were up to the task then. Has that really changed? Maybe he likes someone outside of it.

I still haven't seen chemistry win one game in any sport. The problem is that Macha is a bad field manager more than anything else. The other stuff is just icing on the cake. |

I'm more upset at losing his coaching ability. Chavez credits him with the GGs, he turned Hatteberg into a solid defensive 1B, Swisher into a possible GG-ability 1B, etc.
Second, I really hope this doesn't mean that Geren will be announced as the next Yes-Man for Beane.

Yeah, I really really hope not. If that happens, those guys will have to start the "Bob Geren is a Moron and I Hate Him" page.

I like this, from AthleticsNation: "The A's have yet to announce which dull white guy will sit in the corner of their dugout in 2007."
That's about right. That's what we're going to get. We wanted the energetic black guy.

Looks like an A's move to Fremont and new stadium plans will be announced as early as next week:
http://www.kcbs.com/pages/121049.php...ntentId=236382 I for one am . I don't get the "Keep the A's in Oakland!" stuff. Maybe it's because I don't live there so location doesn't matter to me. But it's a crappy city and the A's will do much better seperating themselves from that god awful location and Raider Nation.

I can't wait. Now I hate going to what used to be a great ballpark.

If it takes a move to Fremont for the A's to play in a real ballpark, I'm all for it. As for a new manager, what are the A's management thinking? I thought Washington had the best shot at getting the job. Is Beane really that hard to work with? Well, there's really nothing out there left outside of Baker or Showalter. I don't any of them coming here so Geren might be the choice. Yikes.

Lots of baseball managers were taught a certain (mostly wrong) way to do things. Beane has a different way. Guys who are a part of that old baseball way are nearly impossible to convert to a new way of thinking. I don't think it's Beane that's hard to work with.

And I just realized a sorta humorous connection with that analogy. Anybody remember the White Jays bull**** from a few years ago? |

I've always been a big fan of Manny Acta. I remember when he started managing in the minors. He always did pretty well. I'm rooting for him to get a job this winter.

I think I was talking on the wrong side of my mouth earlier when I dissed Baker and Beane. I don't want to rattle any cages but maybe Bud Black could get a nod. If not him, then by all means, bring Baker in to manage.
