I just saw this a second ago and was on the way to post it.
This is terrible news, and I am sorry for his family, the extended Celtic family, and fans of basketball. |

ESPN reported that a heart attack was the cause of death.

A true legend for the NBA. The man was brilliant at what he did and it'll be hard to see another coach/executive in the NBA that accomplished what Red did.

I remember I was surprised he was still alive over a decade ago. I always thought he must have lived a great life.

This is only getting so much attention in the media because he coached for Boston. If he had coached in the Midwest or West Coast then it would have been a 2 minute piece and you would have never heard anything again. I am so sick of the East Coast bias in the media.

The fact that no one stacks up against him in terms of titles won as coach/GM/President; or that he drafted the first black NBA player, fielded the first all black pro squad and hired the first American pro black head coach might have been larger factors than where he did all of that.

This event merits a permanent change to the C's unis ala the 'GSH' on the Bears togs. I'm all for a shamrock with 'Red' on it in white being added to the shorts or the uppper shirt. |
