Steve Lyons Fired for Racially Insensitive Comments
Unfortunatly, no one is saying what those comments were so its hard to tell if they were that insensitive. Fox is the home of lots of un-PC programming. Is this hypocritical?

I heard the exchange, and thought Lyons was a bit out of line, but I'm not sure he should've been fired for it. I took it more as "Lyons is an idiot, and I don't know what he's talking about half the time" than "Lyons is a racist."

Lyons' comments were boneheaded and not particularly funny, but that's about par for him.

Sounds like a big misunderstanding gone wrong in an overly sensitive world.

So, you shouldn't then be surprised when he makes the occasional inappropriate comment. I didn't think it was that bad. |

Certainly not worthy of being fired over...but that said, anything that gets Lyons out of the booth is TT.

I guess I don't see what's so bad about it.

I'm guessing the wallet line is what got him fired.

At the time I thought Lyons was continuing Pinella's analogy, as in, he still can't hit the ball.
Either way, I'm glad I don't have to listen to him anymore. But if he was wrongly fired, and I think he was, that sucks. |

I think it is an overreaction to a stupid comment, but Lyons was a lousy analyst anyway so, perhaps, it will improve the broadcast in the future. ...but this is FOX, so I doubt it.

Actually, it was probably the "I can't understand him and don't want to sit too close to him now..." line that did him in, especially since he was given a slap on the wrist for the Shawn Green/Jewish comments of a few years ago.
Stupidity will out and it was just a matter of time until Lyons big mouth shot off in the wrong direction.

It's not like he stripped down to his underwear in the middle of a game.

If it were truly offensive, Pinella would have had one of his trademarked tantrums

Well, that sucks. Yeah, he wasn't that good, but at least he broke up the monotony of Brennaman and kept us from hearing Piniella too much. The only part I found bad was, "and I don't want to sit too close to him now", but certainly it was said in a jovial manner. I heard the wallet on Friday part, but somehow I don't remember hearing the stuff that got Lyons fired.
But.. who knew Piniella was Hispanic?? I certainly didn't.
