I'm not exactly who that post was intended for, but if someone did describe how it was supposed to work, I'd like to see that post!

You know, that box is actually still relatively new. As long as I've been working with the game, I'll confess I'm still a bit nervous about just what it does and how well or not-well the mandate works. In this aspect of the game, I'd sure like to be treated like New to the Game so I'd appreciate any reports or updates you have on the actual effect compared to the expectation. Thanks in advance. And thanks for bringing it up, tcblc!

I turned it on for the past 62 games and nothing at all was done to any of my rosters. The only thing that could be a problem with this is a possible crash with the minor league rosters not being full enough or not having enough players for a game.

Not sure if it'll crash though, just a possibility.

You're turning it on just for your organization, then? And as you say, it almost necessitates a bit more micro-managing of the minors on your part then, doesn't it? I'm curious about what will happen, when and if an error does occur. Hoping it stops and allows you the opportunity to make the correction if needed. Keep me informed on this one by PM or here, if you wouldn't mind. Thanks.

Edit: Oh, do you have the Minor League Management setting under Team Management set to you (Manager) then, as well?

First, to check that box (unless it's changed in the latest patch) you have to be in commish mode. I went in with my commish character and clicked the box, then went back to my GM character... when/if I get fired I'll have to be sure to go back and uncheck those boxes... or I could leave them and really screw the AI manager replacement! Fire me will ya...

I checked these for all of my affiliates (and only mine) and it leaves things alone as far as I can tell. Before clicking this I would tell it to play this LF in CF (teach him the position) and the computer would change him back to LF. After checking this, it doesn't.
It does create a little more managing, but that's what we want. I ask the manager for depth charts, lineups, and staff... then edit what he's done to what I want... he doesn't change it back now. I don't bother with injuries, the AI just subs in the replacements until he comes back. So it isn't a great overload of micro-managing.
The only drawback I have found is the draft. When you draft, the players are supposed to be sent to your lowest level team... with this option clicked it sends them there (when you look at the player it says he's on that team) but it doesn't really (you can't see him on that team). I had to send all my draftees to DFA, then send them back to the team they were "on" already to get them to show up. I believe this has already been given a TT# though... I just went and clicked off this option for that team... the computer manager screws with the lineup and depth chart now, but I get my draftees without a bunch of work... and it's rookie ball anyhow.

The only difference I've seen is that with that setting on "Minor League Manager" it will also demote/promote your minor leaguers. But it adjusts your minor league lineups/depth charts/pitching roles every Monday regardless of how you set it.

Thanks, I checked it and did a couple tests and it seems to do the trick.

I gotta say though, it's a very well hidden feature. Not only is it in an out of the way place, but it's not even visible unless you're in commish mode. Anyway, it works, and that's all that's important!

I've had that set since the start....hasn't stopped the computer from doing whatever it wants with the team.

I've given up on the thing. Wish they would say 'ok here's how you get your money back'. But I guess instead I'll just ignore that I have it. Learnt a lesson.

As for the benefits of this mode, you got me, I was only trying to explain what was different about it, not why you'd want to use it.
Markus said the "act as mode" was intended for online play so the commish can act as the GM of a certain team to complete trades.

Is there any way to be the commissioner and run a team but not have the AI ever mess with that team in any way? If so what are the settings to do that?

I'm still confused with the whole system. Something so simple made so overly confusing.

Agreed. And whiles some people seem to get it, the number of posts going over this same topic is an obvious indicator that the UI as far as this aspect of the game has been botched. For what it's worth, I have an Ivy League degree, I went to a top law school, and yet despite having played the game and read the Game Guide, I still do not understand how to be a GM or how to be a Commish. I said it in another post and it bears repeating- there should be simple buttons on some main Team page that allows you to pick "Computer Controlled", "Human Manager" or "Human GM". That really seems to be the only 3 options there should be. Either the computer does it all, the computer does it all except manage games or the computer does nothing. Why all this confusion about logging in as manager identities, "playing as" and other nonsense? I know some stuff is just a matter of preference, but this set up is so beyond intuitive it isn't even funny.

It's not that hard. You just need to play around with it. The UI was new for anyone who picked up the game for the first time and it does take some time..but after that, its not as bad.

The search option in here works well too, to find answers to common questions and not so common ones.

but that doesn't answer the real question... why was something so easy made to be so hard?

Because there's a fricking bug discussed here. Why is this so difficult for you to understand ozzie?

Because Markus doesn't like you, he stayed up long nights to make sure that this seemingly easy part of the game was turned dreadfully hard.

Seriously though, it will improve with the patches and further versions of the game as had been said millions of times over. It was made hard because it is a rewrite and the code isn't quite right yet. Give it time.

I think I'll add my two cents to this issue. And everyone can love me or hate me, but this is just my opinion.

It's a new game. There are bugs, yes, but they are being dealt with. This being such a complex program, these bugs will take time to find and squash. Everything is being done to make this game as close to what everyone wants it to be.

There was once a time when extensive testing would be performed on any program to ensure that problems were found and dealt with before a game was even released. Then humanity entered the "Do It Now!" era. Today we expect issues to be dealt with yesterday, but we must remember that this isn't the case. I certainly don't expect Markus and company to look at an issue I might make public (I posted about how even though the game now allows 1 and 2 man rotations, yet still requires three pitchers on a roster), magically know where in the code the issue exists, and release a fix the next minute. No, I wait patiently.

Now, I know there are people who want to enjoy this game. And I certainly enjoy it. But I know there are still issues and I know they will be fixed in a timely manner.

So instead of making complaints and demands, let's make the issues known so that Markus and company can fix them. They want to fix them, and they will. But they are human. There will be days when they look at the code and say "Man, I just don't get it" but they're not ignoring you. They'll figure it out if you let them.

But that's just my two cents.

I think it is more: "OOTP entered the SI company" which likely mandated a date by which the game had to be released even if it wasn't ready. The game wasn't ready at the mandated release date and the rest is history.

Are you really naive enough to think that the game completely doesn't work, and that no one else here has noticed this HUGE bug? Do you really think that's more likely to be the case than you just overlooking something or having the game set up incorrectly?

I'm curious to know exactly what lesson you learned from this..."SI is just a big scam, they make money by releasing games that don't work at all, and yet somehow nobody besides me has noticed this is happening?"

Stop being so arrogant and it'll be a lot easier to get your problem fixed.
