Crash with New Patch

I'm having the same problem with the 1.01 patch that I had with 1.00. Using a 24 team fictional league, the game crashes in the june draft. I loaded from a quicksave the first three times and for the fourth I started the league fresh; each time the 1927 amateur draft crashed my game.

With version 1.00, the game issued the following message before crashing:" add_line_to_txt_file - could not open target file for writing." After applying the patch and starting over, the game still crashes during the 1927 draft, this time without an error message.

Just a suggestion for you... list all the specs of your computer (CPU, RAM type/amount, OS, video card, etc., etc.)

I can imagine your frustration, but the more information you give them the better they'll be able to manage your technical issue...

Another suggestion for you, if you haven't done so. Post this in the Tech Support Forum with the additional information Stats_ recommends as well.

You also might want to post this in the tech support forum, that is where the people that matter do the bug reports

Things are flying fast and furious right now, and we need to review each post, assess the situation, make a determination about how to treat it, and so forth. If your question has gone unacknowledged, and has slipped off the first page, feel free to give it a gentle bump.

Please read through this post for more information on the Tech Support process. Reading and understanding this post is the best way to ensure that your bugs will get noticed and acted upon!

How do I get help with a technical problem?
If you see what you suspect may be a bug, or even a feature request that you feel is important, use these simple steps:

1. Make sure you are running the latest patch version. As of today, the latest version is 1.0.1 (build # 12241). This can be seen at the main page when the game launches. Click here to download the 1.0.1 patch.

2. Check the common questions thread to see if your question is answered there.

3. Do a quick search of tech support to see if your problem has already been submitted. The time we spend chasing down bugs that have already been submitted is time better spent tracking down and resolving issues.

4. Post a thread here in Tech Support. If you're not sure if your problem is a bug or a "feature," POST IT HERE! If you post it over in the general discussion forum, chances are no one will look at it closely enough to determine if it is a bug or not.

What information should I include?
If you have a problem to report, first make sure you are using the latest patch available for the game. If you are still experiencing the problem, please do your best to provide the following information:

1. What, specifically, were you doing when the problem occurred? Include the specific screen you were on when the problem occurred.

2. What happened? Was there an error message? If so, what was the specific message?

3. Were you able to repeat the error with this same game? With another game? If so, what steps did you take?

4. If relevant, what do you think the program should have done?

5. What is your league configuration (fictional/historical, etc.)

6. Are you a Mac or PC user?

Additionally, if your problem is related to system performance, memory utilization, or the like, please include details about your computer's hardware and operating system.

One bug per thread, please!
Please submit only one bug per thread. It may make your life easier to give us a 60-line list of problems you perceive for the game, but it makes us very difficult for us to keep track of the distinct issues, and it encourages threads to grow in multiple different directions.

Sample Problem Description
What were you doing?
I was trying to use the View drop-down on the Roster page

What happened?
When I selected the "Batting Stats" view, the game crashed.

Were you able to repeat the problem?
Yes. Every time I try this, I get the same crash. I created a new game, same results.

About TT Numbers
After you have posted a bug, you may notice us posting a "TT #" in your threads. TestTrack is the name of the system SI uses to track bugs. When we record a bug in the system, we give you a "TT #," which is the identifier for your issue within TestTrack. Posting a TT# in a thread means that we have logged an issue, not that it has been resolved. Where we can, we will reply to individual threads when we have confirmed that has a bug has been fixed.

How do I get a status on my problem?
If you want a status on your problem, just post a thread here referring to the TT #, and we will do our best to update you on the progress related to that TT #. It's very important to include the TT #, as that helps us find the specific issue to which you are referring.

What bugs have been fixed so far?
Read this thread for more information on most bugs that have been fixed to date.

Hope this helps!

Did you create this league again from scratch or are you loading the quickstart you saved with 1.0.0

Marc, on that note, "old" save files will not work with the "new" patch?

The test with 1.01 was loaded using a quicksave from 1.00. Would that make a difference?

It's just really odd that the game crashes the same year, at the same time, every time.

For what it's worth, I'm using a 2ghz dual core intel with 1gb of ram.

I'm NOT an expert and I'm ONLY making a suggestion here, but from my experience when updates occur to IP and you have old save files from an earlier build (be it on a memory stick or memory card, etc. you have to (erase) format those files, as they are no longer compatible with the new files... if at all possible, I would create a NEW file, with all the same varibles you're currently using in your "old" quicksave file and see what happens.

Don't delete anything, just load from a fresh quicksave (post patch upgrade and see what happens)

Yeah... I'm setting up a dummy league with 1.01 to see if carrying over the quicksave from 1.00 was causing an issue. Granted, it won't be a perfect comparison since setting up my universe as it was in the quicksave took some 3 hours; that's why I didn't want to start from scratch with 1.01

We'll soon look back on this moment in time (patch 1.0.1) and reflect... until that time comes, however, we are at the mercy of our own expectations... happy simming until then my fellow gamer and good-night.

I created a new league with the Lahman database and it crashed too. Prior to that, I had another error with an league I created in the pre-patch version of OOTP2006 (it's in the tech support forum) and it's weird that..I'm having all these problems now, whereas before the patch, I could run my league ok.

Can you please zip the *.dat files of that quickstart and send it to markus.heinsohn@sigames.com? I'd like to be able to duplicate the problem Thanks!

As an aside, the test league started from scratch with 1.01 crashed during the 1926 draft.

Does that mean that it has been reproduced? I don't think it's a hardware issue, but I can run it on another system to make sure -- that is if it hasn't been confimed already.

Also, in light of some posts that are out there right now, I just wanted to chime in and say that the folks behind OOTP have always been top notch about customer service and support. In the days of yore before ordering stuff online was the norm -- I think we're talking around the time of OOTP2 -- I remember them being really gracious and helpful about manually processing the order.
I realize it's largely a different crew these days, but I've still been amazed at how accessable everyone has been and how intent they are to address concerns and deliver a quality product.

Sev,

Can you confirm if this issue has been resolved in the latest patch?

Thanks!

I still got a similar crash with the new patch. It happened in 1935, not 1928 though. There was the same error message mentioning something about an AMD chip, though. Kinda odd since I have an intel...

More specifically, I was using a Macbook with Parallels software to run windows. I figured that was the problem and so I just picked up the mac version. It's a little slower, but no crash.
