I'm going to go with Mats on this one. While TO is certainly a head case, he doesn't break apart teams. San Francisco was on the decline, and Philadelphia had to resort to their backup QB's and HB's last year. Terrell Owens is a guy who can get you over the hump, and that's all that matters.

Owens was with the 49ers for five years after Garcia took over the starting role in San Francisco (for obvious reasons), so I doubt you're recalling correctly. Three of those seasons were outside the shadow of Jerry Rice. Shortly after Owens was established as a legit #1 receiver who wasn't just benefitting from Rice on the other side.. boom. Complains. The 49ers get next to nothing for a player they could have had the world for. Now TO is (or is turning) 33 years old. By the time August rolls around he'll have been out of football what.. nine months? Your coach doesn't take much crap. Unless his opinion has changed since he left New England your quarterback doesn't like his new target. Owens hates when his QB doesn't get him the ball, especially if that ends up in a sack, interception, or incompletion to another receiver. That same quarterback has some serious issues "feeling the rush", and takes several sacks a season that just boggle your mind. Drew is one of my favorites, but that's always been an issue with him. How does this not spell disaster? Oh, and I fully expect the Eagles to lose the NFC East and possibly even miss the playoffs again this year. They could manage second in the division, but could just as easily wind up fourth. As an unrelated note: I'll never have any respect for players who demand trades for teams they had no problem signing deals with just one or two seasons ago. The only exception being a coaching change. It does make sense for a guy to say "Hey, I stayed because of "X", but I'm not playing for this other prick." |

I've heard Brady suffered his injury anywhere from mid-season to the playoff loss against Denver. I believe he had a sore shoulder as well, but that didn't start up until the postseason if I remember correctly. Quote:

Washington could lose Sean Taylor for awhile if he's found guilty on felony charges. Not to mention their normal, free agent spending spree which headlined a one-dimensional safety, a DE who's struggled with injuries and consistency, and a WR that has never had a 650-yard season. The only deal I liked was getting Brandon Lloyd. Also don't forget, the Redskins don't have a 1st round pick this draft (as of this moment). I feel Dallas has improved, but like you said before, who knows how T.O. will react if his numbers aren't up to par. Parcells is good at defusing players like this, but T.O. takes his ego to another level. The Eagles haven't exactly upgraded, but they haven't really lost anyone either. They made it to the NFCCG with Pinkston and Thrash three times, they should be more than capable of doing it with Brown and Pinkston/Gaffney. The Eagles defense was downright horrible last year, I can't see them repeating that performance again. They did improve at DE by grabbing Howard which is an upgrade over Kalu. They also have a fairly high draft pick where they can address LB/DT/OL. I agree that the Eagles will not likely win the division, but I don't think it's as far-fetched as you make it. |

As a lifelong cowboys fan I dont know what to think of Owens signing. I have hated Owens for years and think hes a big baby. Cant say I didnt enjoy watching him tear up the Eagles and 49ers from the inside though, but now the shoes on the other foot so to speak. In a pure football reasoning this is a great signing, he is one of the top 2 or 3 offensive players in the league and say what you will about his personality the guy does play hard, every play. So I think for this year its going to work out great for the Cowboys because hes going to be on his best behavior, and actually it may work in the long term too. Unless he is completely stupid, even someone as thick as Owens has to know this is probably hes last chance. If he destroys another team his career is probably done, regardless of how talented he is. Unless he wants to play for a small contract because Dallas is definatly his last chance to make the big money. So I have mixed feeligns about this, I dont think this is going to propel the Cowboys to the superbowl by itself but with some OL, and defensive help I think they are on their way. On paper this is the best team they have had since the last time they were in the Super Bowl.

The Rams have added veteran back-up Gus Frerotte.

Arizona *may* have gotten better. Frankly, I am not impressed with the Edge signing. We'll find out real soon how much of his ability was the system and Peyton Manning. My guess is that particular after the injury the answer is "a lot". I doubt the Seahawks will lose Steve Hutchinson, and if they don't, they're basically bringing back the same team that won the NFC last year. It may be closer due to nothing more than the Law of Competitive Balance, but it's still going to be Seattle's division to lose.

1. Edgerrin James probably was helped out a large deal by the Colts and their offensive unit and system. The contract they gave him probably was too much. And his production probably won't be what we've become accustomed to. But if you think adding a legitimate running back to a position that was otherwise a black hole isn't a help, well, you're crazy then. 2. Seattle has stood pat for the most part, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Keeping Hutchinson and Alexander are just as good for them as another team going out and signing a James or a Terrell Owens. They've kept their team in tact, so yep, it's their division to lose. But the Cardinals have improved by adding James. And the Rams have improved as well. So Seattle may run away with the division, but it should be closer this coming season than last year.

Now, obviously they still need to upgrade the line. Hell, getting James just makes that more important. But their passing game was damned effective last year while Warner was in. They're not far away from being a scary bunch. James could have a similar effect to what Marshall Faulk did in St. Louis in '99, and make that happen.

Exactly, James receiving ability is going to be the key in this deal...it opens up so many options in the passing game as well the running game.

In theory, yes. In practice, the Cardinals are signing James when he is at the age when a lot of very good running backs turn into very average running backs (see Dickerson, Eric; Warren, Chris).

I thought Edge was 29. Actually, he's going to be 28 this coming season, so I'm a year off. Nonetheless, IMO the Cards should have tried to grab a RB in the draft and gone after Steve Hutchinson or Kevin Mawae with the money they spent on James.
