RSS Feeds?

This is a 2-part question, but obviously only one can go into the poll. The other is: do a lot of online leagues have RSS feeds? If you know of an online league that has an RSS feed please post the league and preferrably the feed link in case it's difficult to find. Thanks.

The two I know:

With the Firefox browser, it was a simple matter of choosing an extension, and once it was installed, loading the RSS feed location.

But how does a league, such as one of mine, set up a RSS feed for other owners?

Well, if your site uses a phpBB forum then you can use the RSS output option from the Topics Anywhere mod. That's what I did. How others do theirs I don't know, but I'd be interested in finding out, especially how they get the little orange icon to show up.

BTW, the link to the RSS feed for these forums is: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...l.php?type=RSS I don't use it though. There's just too much I'm not interested in.

And for those who don't know what we're talking about or why some of us like it, this is what I posted elsewhere:

Quote:
Well, what it is, basically, is that it sends like notifications or alerts of new articles, posts, or whatever to the person subscribing to the feed. It's almost as if you set the entire forum to notify you by email of when a post is made and it can you give you some details of the post like what you see with the latest forum posts feature and lead you directly to the post. The big advantage of it in my eyes is that it sends the news to you instead of you having to go and look for it yourself. Personally, I like it, but I understand if others don't like to be sent stuff. You can unsubscribe at any time with the click of a button though. To read them there are all sorts of programs you can use like specialized programs or just email programs, but I use Google Desktop (don't enable that new Search Across Computers feature!). One can find out more about them at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_Feed

You can write 'em manually, too. I did a quickie for the KBL recently, but I have to admit that it's a little more work to manually update them. Not horrible, but kind of a pain.

Here is one of many sites that tell you how to write your own:

http://www.downes.ca/cgi-bin/page.cg...86&format=full

Here's the KBL's as of my last go of it:

http://whbl.org/etc/kbl_rss.xml

And mine is WAY simple. I'm no pro at this stuff.

Thanks for the link! I'll be sure to check it out sometime.

Oh, and I didn't mean to step on your toes with the KBL RSS feed. Nick had told me you were doing something for him with what you were talking about previously, but when I was wanting a RSS feed for the KBL the other night it didn't cross my mind that you might have been working on one yourself already. Mine's only a simple one for the forum, it doesn't catch Nick's KBN or anything else. So please, by all means use yours.

Hell, you didn't step on my toes at all, Kieran. I'm happy to help out how I can, and whatever works for you guys the best is what you should do!

No. I'm worried about him too. We have a thread going on about him in the KBL forum. Rob made a good point in the thread though.

Yeah, Rob's probably right. Unfortunately, my e-mails have gone unanswered since a couple weeks ago, and I've even considered calling him up based on his listing in the phone book.

But I don't want to seem panicked.
