MLC extensions for arbitration eligible players

In my on-line league I have a player who will be arbitration eligible by the end of the season (right now it says possible arbitration but the number of days needed are less than we have left in the season). He is currently on the 25 man roster and makes the league minimum (he's a starting pitcher and I'm sure he'll make significantly more than the mminimum through arbitration).

I've checked his salary demands and he says he'll agree to a minor league contract. My question is, if I sign him to a minor league contract extension now, what will happen when he reaches enough service time to be arbitration eligible?

I might be having a brain cramp, but something doesn't sound right. Could you provide a link to the player's html report?

here he is

http://www.takeyourbase.com/ootp/pfbl/league/p304.html

On his player page it says: $300,000 (possible arbitration)

On my team salary page he's listed as: Possible Arbitration, 91 more days of service needed this year.

He's my #3 starter and we're still in the off-season so I'm sure he'll get the 91 more days. My question is, if I sign him to a minor league extension now, he's said he'll accept one, what happens to his contract when the PTNS button is pushed?

Regardless of what it says, I think he will get arbitration - he currently has a major league contract, so he can't sign a minor league extension.

I think.

He'll sign the minor league contract. I've done it many times before.

I believe that he will receive a league minimum contract next year instead of arbitration.

No, he'll sign a minor league contract. However it will turn into a league minimum contract once the season begins if he hasn't been moved to the minors.

I tested it and Derek4jc is correct (I started testing before he posted).

Does your (EDIT: I was talking to ssmarsh) league not have a rule against signing extensions so early in the season? A number of leagues have a rule like that for a number of reasons. IRL a player would have to be an idiot to agree to that.

EDIT: I wonder, if a player does that then does he get to be an FA the following season?

EDIT2: I tested it and he will be arbitration eligible again. I thought it might be smart to agree to the MLC if he could go to FA the next season, but he can't so it's not.

I suppose only at 25yo there might be some improvement in his quality, and his ratings are not bad. I would be concerned though if my #3 SP deemed an MLC acceptable pay.

No, we can try and re-sign players anytime.

So from what I'm reading here, if I sign him to a minor league extension and keep him in the majors all season (as I plan to do), once we PTNS, he'll get the minimum. Correct?

Yes, and you don't even have to keep him in the majors all season. Once your league flips the file he'll be 300,000 again.

Your league really should fix this issue as it is a bit of a bug but cheers to you for taking advantage of a loophole.
