Active Owners Looking for New League

Hi all. I am currently active in another league, but both myself and a friend would love to get involved in another league.

About myself:
I am 27 years old.
I attend law school.
I am a sports fantatic.
I am a very active and responsible GM and like leagues where I find many of the same.

My friend is similarly positioned.

Ideally we would like a new league which is planning on holding a draft to disperse players.

I can be contacted at hurn0003 on AIM. Thanks.

John

Well, we're not holding a dispersal draft, but we might be a good fit for you two. Our league is mostly comprised of mature educated working professionals. That doesn't mean we're stuck up though. What might be most attractive about us is we have 2 openings in the same division and because we have an unbalanced schedule division rivalries mean a lot more. Both teams are around .500 right now and could go either way in the coming years. That situation might make for an interesting competition between you two in addition to the competition you'll have with a number of good GMs in the rest of the league. If this sounds intriguing to you then you can find out more about the KBL at: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ad.php?t=97069 and http://kbl-ootp-online.com . Good luck!

Here's an excerpt from our info page that attempts to explain it:

Quote:
An unbalanced schedule is unfair to the wild card teams. However, a balanced schedule is unfair to the truly best team in a division. After a good deal of discussion with LeGrandeOrange, the resident schedule expert in the community, we decided on going with particular ratios (number of games against each division opponent vs number of games against each non-division opponent and and total number of games in division vs total number of games outside division) of an unbalanced schedule for a number of reasons, but most importantly to make the division races as meaningful as possible. The main points as I recall them were:

-there are 3 division winners to every wild card
-division winners are more important to get right just because they are first place not second place teams
-one of the most exciting things in baseball are the divisional races and with less games per divisional opponent you have much less of a head-to-head race.
-with a balanced schedule a team only needs to have the best record against all the teams in its league to win the division title, not necessarily the best record against its division opponents. Like in current day MLB, it would often happen that the team with the best divisional record would not win the division (I remember there was a thread on this on the OOTP boards that listed these recent cases). With balanced the best team against all league opponents might be the same team that is the best against division opponents, but the chances that the true best team in the division wins the division is not as high as with unbalanced. And of course the more unbalanced it is the greater your chances that this happens.
EDIT: Actually, I think MLB currently uses an unbalanced schedule, but for awhile it did not.

Doesn't seem very long, as the thread was created on the 24th, and the thread was edited Sunday. It takes a while to get interested owners. Some people check in at different times and days. It took me a week and a half to get the WCBL filled.

true. I was rpetty fortunate to have folks sign up but I agree getting intrest especially on the weekends is almost painful. The amount of new leagues coming out doesnt help matters.

it sounds like a great idea and i know it would get interest if you kept the idea out there long enough.

For those who have messaged me, I really appreciate it. However, what we are really looking for is a brand new league w/ an initial draft. If someone were starting a league such as this, I would be glad to provide some assistance if so desired.

well that was mine. The draft will be closing in ten minutes.

We may have open teams if we get no responce from GM's though

I was told by a veteran member that I opened up the league at an unfortunate time, as he said a bunch of other leagues started up and left the void for a real team league very minimal.

I'm debating changing the league to fictional, with a complete well-written history/storyline behind it.

It may be a bad time, I am not sure. I think there is demand for a league that offers an initial draft and has real teams. I think you just need to be a bit more patient. It might take a couple of weeks to find a full list of competant owners.

I'd hope not to see this, but whoever it was might have also had a stake in one of those other leagues. I'd say give it more time. A week at the least, maybe two. And then even if you're still not full but you feel as though there's significant interest, go ahead with the planning stage and you'll pick up more along the way. I'm pretty sure modern leagues are easier to fill than fictional and I think most others will probably agree. But again, consider the source. I commish a fictional league.
