How about Greg Walker, Chicago White Sox? He could have had a promising career as power hitter, but had some serious medical problems that caused him to retire.

Hal Lanier.

He made the 1964 Topps All-Star Rookie Team but a serious beaning in 1965 left him with epilepsy, and he never hit above .233 again. He was a quality fielder, however, for the Giants.

Tony Conigliaro too. He got beaned with the Red Sox and was never the same.

Another guy is Ken Griffey, Jr.

Who?

This may be getting off the beaten path, but Ted Williams lost almost all of five years of playing time to military service.

He had great career numbers as they stand, but I wonder what they would have been if you factor in what he probably would have done during the years of military service.

Don't forget Eddie Gaedel! (Just think of all the bases-loaded pinch hit opportunities)

A couple of country music singers:
Charlie Pride
Jim Reeves

Andre Robertson. A young, promising SS with the Yankees but was in a car accident that ended his career.

What about Bernard Gilkey(I believe thats his name)? Or does he count as a one year wonder. I remember he was soo good one year that he was on the cover of Triple Play.

JR didn't die... had a stroke, but the Astros refused to believe anything was wrong with him for about half a season... Never could regain his form after the stroke, though he did try for a season in the minors. Last I heard he was putting his life back together after spending several years quite literally living under a bridge.

He sure was a heck of a talent, though, and definately belongs in this league

Colt Griffin, Chris George, Jeremy Affeldt, Runelvis Hernandez, Mike MacDougal, and just about any other non-Greinke pitcher the Royals have "developed" over the last decade or so.

McGwire if he stayed healthy for the middle of his career would have had huge numbers. Todd Van Poppel was another who never made it up to expectations.

Kerry Wood and Mark Prior.

Tony Saunders (maybe the unluckiest player of all time.)

Some suggestions....great idea btw

- SP Len Barker
- Who was the leadoff hitter for Detroit that played only after he got out of prison? Ron Lafluer or something like that?
- CL/MR Donnie Moore (suicide)
- Lonnie Smith had he not had the missed years from drugs.
- A cancer free Dave Dravecki
- Haven't some people created historical Japanese leagues? Some of their greatest players might be nice additions.
- Phil Plantier...man did he explode into the ball
- Ron Gant without a motorcycle
- Otis Nixon had he not spent all those years on Montreal's bench.
- Nigel Wilson, first selection by the Florida Marlins...someone already mentioned David Nied.
- Tony Tarasco and Keith Mitchell...very highly touted Braves prospects that never panned out.
- Mitch Williams
- John Rocker
- Gerald Williams, people thought he would be better than Bernie
- Carlos Baerga
- Joaquin Andujar before he turned his knee into spaghetti
- Jay Shroeder
- Candy Maldanado

Cory Snyder.

Don't forget, he was a shortstop that was converted into a RF with sick power.
