Hey endgame,

See if you could draw me a very simple logo, maybe not so simple, I am looking for a logo that is just the letter W.
But, I do not want a simple black color thin W, I would like a W that is wide enough that it has the colors of the American flag. I am guesing, but it may be two layers, one layer is the American flag in the lower layer, the W, which you can see the flag in the W not around the W may be the upper layer. I only have MS paint, and let me say that my 4 year old daughter can draw better than I can.

Well... If you could see the hole I've dug for myself on this desktop....

Thank you for the intro assignment. It'll give me something to aim toward.

This isn't quite what you described, but thought while I was still scrawling around a bit I'd at least show you the first results.
It's a little rough and once again I started messing with ideas beyond the simple steps in front of me, but it was a learning experience. I'll get back to the original assignment. Promise.

Still trying to come to terms with simplification as time permits. I snipped and pasted a bit with this one learning layers. It's not remarkable, but it's headway. Now to see if it remains visible in game format.

I'm starting to get a little impatient during the learning curve. May well be that v7 will be out before I get my 32 teams completed. In any event, wanted to make a quick check and get some initial feedback. I've elected more a snatch and paste for the main logo with some trimming and finessing.

Here's an example. Hack away. It's the Lawrence, Kansas (LK) Dark Cures:

Here's another I've almost got where I want it, but can't get the text to the ultimate level where it stands out best. Nevertheless, it doesn't do too badly within the game. It's an Ohio plains team. It's obvious I'm still experimenting and still very new to the process. You guys have been great with advice. Thanks.

You are failing better and better.

You are making good progress. Your second logo was much better than your first from 20 days ago.

I like the Dark Cures...it looks very good.

Wilmington is simple, but well done.

You have good colors and contrast on Dark Cures and Wilmington.

Lakewood needs more contrast.

Make sure you pick colors that are attention getters...and use colors that coordinate well together and have good contrast.

Just my opinion and preference only...stay simple and uncluttered. Some of the best logos I have seen are just very simple.

And as your skills are honed and refined, then get into the complex logo designs.

Keep up the good work. It won't be long till you are doing requests here on the Logos and Graphics Forum.

Thanks for the encouragement Eugene. The early process is basic and it's easy to get sidetracked into more complex configurations than the ability allows. The reality is I'd prefer to stay with the very simple e.g. an AZ for Arizona and add simply flair with color or style - as LGO says, "the way real logos look".

I'll get there with my league - may end up requesting some help if the weeks continue to stretch into months - but I'll hardly end up a designer. That's a natural talent possessed by the icons creating them in this forum. Like your eye, it wasn't really trained. You're built that way.

Again, thanks for the nudge.

Again, thanks for the nudge.
Just start posting them one at a time and be patient...almost all of the requests are filled here if you just persevere.

It has been slow lately...with just a few designers doing them on a regular basis...thank goodness for the old dependables:knuckler, nmleague, illeracula, Tequilaworm and Cooleyvol...hopefully pepeda will be back soon, too.

This one's a bit on the grey scale side, but so is this team...gravel and grit:

Had a good portion of the day to spend working with logos for the new league. Managed to get back to some, create some new, and fiddle with ideas for the balance. Did manage to complete (I think) 18 of them today.

Granted I'm not a purist, more the cut, modify, paste, create, combine, etc... sort of enthusiast -- but I'm starting to reach that point Cuss told me shoot for, i.e. I'm enjoying the process; actually having a good time.

I don't know how, or don't recall, to put more than one on a page. Nevertheless, I'd like to share two or three just to get your take if you're willing. A secondary benefit to posting some here is to encourage anyone to give it a try who might be like me -- dumb as post when it comes to graphics programs, but wanting to find a way to personalize the teams with personalized involvement.

Anyway, here's some just to give you a progress report:

I hadn't peaked in on this thread since around the time of the American flag logo, so it was interesting just now coming back and seeing what is here. There is quite a variety and creativity - I do not think I would have attributed this set to a single maker. Good work.

Glad you are enjoying the process as well as some of the results since you are posting them. I think that is the most important thing by far. I'm rather picky about team names, nicknames, and logos that I would want to use. I can like things from others and think they are well done but not really want to use them myself because I do not feel the style coincides with what I like. Then some of the things I have made for myself I can accept as inferior but still have special affection for because they are my own creation. Hope you are generally happy with (many of) your results also.

endgame,

you are very creative with your logos...and you are making remarkable progress.

All of these are well done.

Keep showing us your work.

You ought to fill a few requests here on the Logos Forum...that is, if you enjoy that sort of thing. Or just do them for yourself, if that is what you enjoy.

"Enjoyment" is the name of the game...no matter what you are doing.

Well, thanks for the encouraging words Eugene. As it turns out, some of what I accomplished worked, some didn't. One piece of advice you've returned again and again to is that the logos (in this case) need to be designed with their use IN the game in mind. Some of the ones I finished Wednesday looked good in some screens, not in others, some not in ANY screen. So it's back to work on those checking them in the game screens to see how they present.

There are so many talented designers here, the requests usually get filled in a better fashion than I ever could. But I'm sure eventually I'll offer up something of value.

In any event, here's one that did look good in the game and turned out better than I thought it would when I started. It was a back to basics with a simple concept combined with simple layers. But it stood out clearly and that's what I'm seeking now, that contrast and clarity your eye so readily discerns when you see them on these pages. Thanks for continuing your visual training with folks like me. I appreciate it.

I am not at home this week, so can't load a logo up and see how it looks in the game...but this Owensboro Force looks like it will be fine at first glance...I don't see any jagged edges anywhere...that's a fancy background for FORCE.

As you probably know, if it looks good on a midsized screen, it will be fine in the game...the small lineup conparison screen almost never shows a logo well...except for a logo with a large single letter.

Keep working and one day...sooner than you think, you'll be doing logos for other people.
