The logo I make on my own may not be as good as cutting and pasting miscellaneous graphics obtained through a google search, but the end result is still more satisfying to me than "cheating," per se.

I also prefer to vote that way too.

no doubt.
theres nothing like adding some text and border and being complimented on an amazing piece of work. takes no skill whats so ever

PK, not trying to start a flaming argument, but I would like to politely disagree with you.

If it requires no skill whatsoever to add text and borders, why can't more people create their own logos?

Let's not turn this into a "skill" - "no skill" pissing contest. A lot of folks (about 100 each week) are having fun with this contest, so let's either take part or not. We don't have to qualify who believes it takes talent, or how much.

I agree, although Preston Kaye is right in the fact that some of us have better tools than others, we should not turn the contest into something that pushes designers away from creating logos whether they are original or not. I know that when this contest first started, I was like man I wish I could do good enough work to enter this contest and now here I am receiving double digit vote totals, so I've impressed myself if noone else. And those who don't even create logos still vote so that is who we need to keep happy.

This is precisely why I don't think this debate serves a good purpose. People who "cut and paste," often manipulate the logo quite a bit as well. And even if it takes absolutely no skill(which I don't believe), they still take the time and effort to put stuff together for other people. No one that "cuts and pastes" would claim to be as good of a designer as Cuss or LGO, but that doesn't mean we have to trash the contributions they make to this forum. Honestly, I just don't understand why we're having this debate. There are two entirely different types of logo makers here. They each bring a lot to this forum, and the thing that always made this forum great was the ability of people to get along and help each other. I think this is pushing us in the opposite direction.

I agree with knuckler, I could care less if someone donates a logo to me that is all original or cut and paste, as long as it looks good. When you think about it, how many high school teams recycle college or pro logos for themselves. This is also done by minor league baseball teams. They use the same logos as their major league affiliate often times.

sorry, I didn't meen to imply i was unhappy, I was just ranting that sacramento and its relationship to gold has been done to death around here. And on a personal note I have always found the name SOX to be stupid, so you add the 2 together and i had to vent

I am all better now.

I would have suggested the Sacramento Bureaucrats.

but ehhh.

I say there's only one kind of "designers" here, the kind that's here to have fun.

I don't think anyone here cares about how "bad" a logo looks, if it's bad, or not to your personal liking, then don't use it. There's no need to criticize anyone' work, but of course I believe there's always room for suggestions and comments, but not criticisims.

I think the contest and the idea behind this entire forum is not to make certain people more superior than anyone else but to give everyone an opportunity to have fun. I personally just love the process of coming up with a design, and to be able to do this under a certain pressure (time limit of the logo contest etc.) is pretty exciting and makes the process even that much more fun.

I say if anyone's got a itch to vent your creativity then do it, in any way you feel comfortable with, whether it is cut/paste, from scratch or whatever because ultimately I think nobody's opinion is better than your own.

Just have fun.

Agreed!

And getting back to the title of this thread, I think I've actually come up with an idea for this name finally. Now I just have to find the time to actually make it...

Of course it won't! I can respect anyone's opinion without necessarily having to agree with it.

Good to hear...I thought that is how you would feel.

I owe everyone an apology...in the future I will do my best to not make comments which will derail a thread from its intended purpose...one of my pet peeve on this forum is when a thread is taken off on a flaming tangent, rather than keeping to the original case at point.

And I violated my own principles.

Sorry.
