Attn: Logo Designers - Sacramento Gold Sox - Favorites Logo #10

THIS IS POSTED A LITTLE EARLY TO GIVE THE DESIGNERS A LITTLE MORE TIME TO CREATE THEIR MASTERPIECES.

PLEASE NOTE YOU HAVE UNTIL TUESDAY, MARCH 22 TO SUBMIT YOUR ENTRIES.

SACRAMENTO GOLD SOX is the next logo to be designed for the Logo Favorites Compilation.

Sacramento is our next city..."The Golden State"...A bear is on state flag...capital of California...city has a great location in a fertile valley with plenty of irrigation from two large rivers, the Sacramento and American rivers...originally settled by peaceful Indian tribes...given the name by explorer Gabriel Moraga..."Sacramento" means "Holy Sacrament" in Spanish...he gave it that name because the valley inhabitants were truly blessed by God.

Past:
Gold Rush 1849...Sutter's Mill...transportation center...railroad...Pony Express and Wells Fargo western terminus...rivers used for transportation...the Delta King a famous riverboat...and was reactivated in recent times as a luxury cruise boat.
Today:
Second "Silicon Valley" and state capital...very prosperous and thriving city.

If you would like to design a logo, you have until Midnight Tuesday, March 22 at 11:59 pm CST (USA) to e-mail it to jnshmoo. You may submit more than one logo...but please make them distinctly different from each other...and not just slight variations of the same logo

HIS EMAIL ADDRESS: ootplogo at jnshmoo.us (You will have to take out the "spaces" and add the real "at" symbol...this is to cut down on spam to jnshmoo).

IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE A RECEIPT CONFIRMATION OF YOUR ENTRY WITHIN 24 HOURS, CONTACT JNSHMOO BY PM (PRIVATE MESSAGE). YOU SHOULD ALSO RESEND YOUR ENTRY TO HIM.

IT IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED THAT YOU GET YOUR ENTRY IN PRIOR TO THE LAST 24 HOURS OF THE ENTRY DEADLINE.

Size: 150 x 150 pixels

JPG FORMAT

RULES: DO NOT USE ANY EXISTING PRO SPORTS LEAGUES LOGOS.
A designer cannot use an already existing professional logo in the logo design and creation...it must be a new creation.

The time zone is Central Standard Time in the USA...my time zone.
DEADLINE TO SUBMIT YOUR LOGO: 11:59 PM CST TUESDAY, MARCH 22
For the time zone challenged, Midnight Central Time on Tuesday is:
(COMPLIMENTS OF THE TIMELESS WONDER, LE GRANDE ORANGE)

Personally I like it, too...but I am also not from Sacramento.

The committee does its research...compiles the list of suggestions...and then votes on them.

Sometimes you win...sometimes you lose...and sometimes you get rained out.

Sorry we didn't please you.

Nothing original comes to mind to me for this one either... LOL, that seems to happen with most of the team names so far, though I usually find something to cobble together by the end.

Of course, it'd be easy to mimic the Boston and Chicago Sox logos, but that's not right...

It seems to me you have to use a "sock" in it and there aren't too many ways to do that and not use one similar to the Red Sox and White Sox...just don't use the whole logo...it seems that parts would be ok...just my opinion...not the gospel.

I prefer the "cut and paste" logo designers...imo they do some great logos...do them quickly...and more often than not...imo...are superior to the "created from scratch" logos.

Hope LL doesn't mind.

I look at it a little differently, although my point of view comes from someone who creates logos. I feel a lot better coming up with my own design from scratch, even if it's not that good, than I do when I use someone else's work, splash on some text, and hand it in. The logo I make on my own may not be as good as cutting and pasting miscellaneous graphics obtained through a google search, but the end result is still more satisfying to me than "cheating," per se.

I also prefer to vote that way too.

I think both have merit. As someone who "cuts and pastes," I can say that often it's more than just finding a logo and adding text. Sometimes, it involves manipulating it in various ways. I think that the so-called cut and paste logo makers add plenty of value to this forum as do the people from scratch. I get plenty of enjoyment out of making them this way, and it feels good to be able to help people even if my logos don't match up with other people's logos. Honestly, I hate to see a debate like this, because I don't see what it serves to solve. Both types of logo makers have value. It would be one thing if I was trying to pawn off these types of logos as original and entering them in the contest, but I'm not.

There is without a doubt a need for cut and paste logo makers here. Probably 80%-90% of the logos provided for those that request them are logos that use some cut and pasting. It seems that the only way a logo can be done with in short time is to use that method. Most people that request logos aren't looking for an original piece, maybe some are, I seem to remember someone charging people for logos in the past year or two. Most of the cut and past makers provide a fast turn around service for those that need logos, for no charge. I feel pretty good about doing a logo for someone and seeing the finnished product, even if it uses graphics found on the net, and it usually takes me about 20 min. at the most to do a logo. It probably would be more rewarding to design and create one from sctratch, but then again I don't have the time to spend doing that, and don't want to have the frustration of trying to get it just right, and if someone is creating a league with a large number of teams they don't want to wait for days for the logos they need. There is room for both, but the cut and paste makers contribute much more to the OOTP community than the artists.

I guess I should shed a few tears now for my unappreciated designs...

Okay, not really.

My take on the cut & paste vs. created from scratch argument is simple: I just personally prefer that any logos that I do be original creations as much as possible. I want to be able to fully stretch my creative legs, so to speak, as and such starting from scratch is the best way to do that IMHO.

Plus, if I ever show my work off to someone in a more professional sense, I want to be able to say all the elements in the design are my own and not borrowed from somewhere else.

But if someone wants to go the opposite way, that's fine too, I have no problems with that.

I only wish I could create from scratch faster than I do...

Very true LGO. As I too try to stay original in concept at least. The only images I cut and paste are usually those of balls, bats, and other baseball equipment etc.

The nice thing about the Logos Forum is that the logo fans and the logo designers...both scratch creators and those who are skilled in using already created elements...can have a civil discussion about this subject.

knuckler is 100% correct that both types have value. We need them both here.

My Mama makes delicious "made from scratch" biscuits that will melt in your mouth...but guess what?...only my family can enjoy them on a regular basis...someone "borrowed" her recipe and now can make frozen biscuits that are as good as hers...and now the whole world has access to my "Mama's mouthwatering, melt in your mouth biscuits".

That is how I see this difference between original and cut/paste designers.

dbacks is one of my favorite people...he is one fine young man...he has helped me techically many times with computer skills...he is the one who took the time to teach me in detailed step-by-step instructions (which was vital because of my computer ignorance) how to download logos...and he has created more logos for me than anyone, I think...he has cheerfully and willingly revised more logos for me than anyone, I think...he has done some beautiful banners for me on my website...But he and I have a different preference for logo creations...that all it is to this...and I think it is highly unlikely that this difference will spoil our friendship.

knuckler is one of my favorite people, too...he is a fine person...he has done many fine logos for me...and cheerfully and willingly revised them for me...knuckler is also 100% wrong that his logos don't match up to others. He has done many, many outstanding logos and he should not feel inferior because he "borrows" from others. There is no dishonor in taking something that has already been created and making it better...naturally, you should have the permission of the original creator and give them credit for their work.

Le Grande Orange is also one of my favorite people...and a fine person...(even if he creates his logos from scratch )...he has created schedules for my Alltime Allstar League...shown me how to install them in games (with those ever important detailed instructions for the computer challenged)...and shared his knowledge of the game many times with me.

I apologize to dbacks, Le Grange Orange and any original logo designers if they have taken offense of my preference for logo creations. I would like for my logos to be done by these guys...they are great...but I also am thankful for the cut/pasters, too...they do some great logos, too.

We need them both.

Scotto would be on that list of favorite people, too.

He has done me a bunch of beautiful logos.

You know this thread has made me realize that I need to post all of "my" logos on my website and give each of the designers credit and make them available for downloading. A lot of my logos (actually "their" logos) are posted on Joe Rock's and the Logo Gallery...but I must have had 50 more since those were posted.

The only problem is that after 3 months the website is still a work in progress and only semi-functional...so it may be 3 more months before I can do this.

But "if the Good Lord is willing and those two creeks don't rise" I will do it.

A quote from a great country music star and great songwriter, Hank Williams, Sr...he used to close his radio show with that phrase...meaning that he would be back next week if those two things permitted him to do so.
