They could always toss Greene in as well, what the heck.

Ryan, Lobster and Farmer...Are the Reds in dire need of long reliever/mopup guys? I guessing Moya and Collins would have to be included. Of course, that leaves the cupboard bare when it comes to replacing Cespedes. Plus, you have to be in the lead for a closer to be useful. Right now, we only have 2 reliable starters.....which is frightening, as Sanchez is always an injury waiting to happen. UGH!

If the Tigers sell, offering Price, Cespedes and maybe Kinsler etc. What positions do you think they should target?

I dunno, infield. Maybe outfield. Oh, and pitching. Definitely pitching.

BTW, I still don't think they will sell. Does really being a handful of games behind Houston and Minnesota really mean you are dead in the water? No way. Those teams could fold up their tent any day, Houston already is starting to. I can barely name a Minnesota starting pitcher.

The Indians still think they are in it and all they could manage yesterday was four bases loaded walks.

I think it's less about teams above Detroit folding and more about Detroit just not having it in them to succeed. On paper, they have the talent. But on the field they just can't put it all together. This whole year (maybe minus the first 10 games) has been about "They have the potential to be..." but they've just never really done anything with it.

Dave Cameron from Fangraphs.com validates the untradeableness of Verlander, calling him and his contract the third least trade value:

Well, at least you aren't the Rangers...

I guess that it's time.

Moving Cespades, Kinsler and Price should re-stock the system and maybe even get Verlander dumped on someone.

Ugh. I'll watch 1984 on Youtube from here on out I suppose.

Really makes one appreciate just how hard it is to win it all.

It takes so long to build and it all can come unglued seemingly overnight.

Yes. Always needing that one extra piece to complete the puzzle can really hurt a franchise. Unless every guy you draft lives up to or exceeds his potential, the prospect pool eventually runs dry. The Tigers remind me so much of the Biggio/Bagwell Astros.

Another thing I appreciate a lot more these days....Teams like the Cardinals and the Giants. So many homegrown players.

Fangraphs on why the Tigers should NOT be sellers. I think this visually represents the point I made yesterday. They have as much chance as anyone left to sneak into the playoffs.

That's interesting but I wouldn't want to chase a 25% shot at the playoffs this year for assured destruction next year. We might well end up with no playoffs this year (or a one-and-done WC game), be bottom tier next year and have precious little talent in the pipeline for years beyond that.

Royals just optioned Yordono to AAA to get himself sorted. I don't think KC would do this but I would personally...

Just curious what you think. Would DD go for a straight Ventura for Price deal?

I bet he'd be all over it. I don't think KC would given the relatively low cost of Vemtura with certainty for foreseeable future but if they did that deal...wow on both ends...

Oh, and before you give up hope: One year ago today, the Royals were 48-50, 8 GB, 4.5 back of a Wild Card spot, and we were speculating what they could get for James Shields

I don't know why I decided to subject myself to this again tonight. This bullpen is something up with which, I shall not put.

I can't watch another one for a while. Good grief.

That one hurts. They overcame Shane Greene and were in the lead! I didn't even know Franklin Guttierez was back in the league. Dudes been on the dl for like 7 years.

Yeah, it's hard to watch the same problems over and over. I get this way about the Indians offense too. Once they are down like 3-0 it feels over. When they get in extended spells, I definitely stop watching for a couple weeks because it makes me miserable.
