I would be pretty surprised to see the Tigers blow it up. I can't see them falling so far behind in the current landscape of the AL that they have to trade guys. All you have to do is get hot in September. Teams show this time and time again.

Also, it doesn't really seem like the Tigers style to mail it in. If anything, I could see them going after someone like Cole Hamels to replace Price down the line.

Yeah, I think the extra wildcard almost assures this.

My fervent hope is that the Tigers will have a closer that doesn't string his own tightrope some season before I pass on. I may be asking too much.

That was pretty awful. Verlander finally has a good outing and the bullpen blows it. Ugh!

Is it time to start selling yet? I think this season is a wash.

Looking at the wild card standings, I doubt they sell. Of course, that probably means they stink big time next year, but I'm guessing throwing in the towel mid-season would be much harder to sell to Tiger fans. What scares the crap out of me, is DD trading away the very few prospects we have on the farm for another rental.......Cueto

Okay, I don't think this team can afford to have Victor getting tossed in the 5th inning. Who came into DH, Romine? Going to hold off on getting excited about the Neftali signing. I'm sure the Rangers released him for a reason. Plus, the guy tends to get hurt at the slightest sign of success.

Turn out the lights the parties over. What a way to go into the break. Anyone else think this team could finish last in the Central? The White Sox have been showing signs of life....I never thought they were a bad team to begin with.

Great start from Price. Quiet bats and typical bullpen performance.

This may be over soon if it isn't already. They could easily be 15 back when Miggy returns.

They. Are. Done.

10 1/2 out in the division. Below .500. 4 1/2 back in the wild card. And not showing any signs of improvement. Sell. Get good returns. Retool for next year and down the road with good, cheaper prospects. This season is over.

Obviously I'm a KC fan but do you guys think there is any chance the Tigers deal someone like Verlander to someone like the Angels as a package with Price? (I mean, finding someone to take Justin on with that contract at this point would be very tough...isn't this the first year of it?)

I say that because a team like the Angels basically has unlimited payroll capacity. If I were DD, I'd try that because otherwise you're handcuffed for a long time with a guy who needs to be what he was when Leyland was running him out there for 130+ pitches for so many years.

The other side I guess is that you've got an old owner who for sure wants to win so maybe that isn't such a handcuff for him....

Just thinking out loud...

I've wondered about trading Verlander too. I think his good years (at least with Detroit) may be done. There are very few older players on the team that I wouldn't be okay with trading. I don't know if anyone would want to take on a contract like his though unless they felt he still had more good years in him.

If they want to try to salvage this year at the expense of another five or more years of the future, I guess that they could take a hard run at Chapman, wait for Miggy to heal and hope for the best with Verlander this season. Anything short of that and it's time to sell hard.

Hard to accept but it's time to shoot out the lights and roll up the sidewalks on 2015.

It's not the first year, but he's owed $112M over the next 4 years. I can't see anyone taking on that with his current lack of effectiveness.

(P.S. if you guys are done, can you trade the Indians a little hitting please? k thx bye )

EDIT: I guess technically it is the first year of the extension portion of his contract since the first 2 years replaced the existing contact. To-may-to, to-mah-to.

Do the Tigers even have enough on the farm to make a serious offer for Chapman?

I just don't see Verlander righting the ship until he decides to re-invent himself on the mound. Dude still thinks he has the meat to pitch up in the zone. He clearly doesn't. Time to call Frank Tanana and make him Justin's spiritual adviser and life coach.

Maybe if they truly empty the cupboard - Ryan, Farmer, Lobster? Probably not, but that's the only upgrade that would matter I think and even then ...

An ugly future may be upon us.
