forgive me, i am not much of a dodger noticer since the reds left their division, is this good or bad news for dodger fans? Murdoch certainly has kept a fairly high payroll.

I, for one, am glad to see Fartdock sell the team. Glazer has proven he is a good owner who will do what it takes to win.

This should be a good thing for the Dodgers. Glazer wants to win at pretty much all costs.

It's funny, a little more than a year ago when the Buccs were stumbling around trying to hire a head coach but getting turned down by Purcells and Mariucci, I thought the Glazers looked liked chumps. Then when they traded $8 million and 4 high draft picks for the Raider's Jon Gruden I thought at least they finally got a coach but they paid way to much! Fools!
Of course one Super Bowl win later (over my Raiders) has me seeing the Glazers in a whole new light. I have actually gained a lot of respect for Malcolm and his boys. With the 3 or 4 interested ownership groups going after the Dodgers, I was rooting for the Glazers over the others. I think they can help restore some of the pride and tradition of the Dodgers -- something that was clearly missing with the corporate ownership of Fox.

^ Spoken like a true Giants fan who has seen ZERO championships from his team in his lifetime.
A couple of other thoughts… Although it is clearly speculation at this point, it is thought that new ownership would mean the management ranks would be cleaned out. If that means Dan Evans and Jim Tracy are sent packing, I could live with that – especially with the dismissal of Evans. I’d hate to see CEO Bob Daly go. Since he came aboard, he has made some positive moves like rehiring some of the old Dodgers to work for the team and trying to restore some of the Dodger tradition. He was a Dodgers fan going back to his Brooklyn childhood and it has shown. Undoubtedly, his role would be diminished or phased out under new ownership. Another issue is the stadium. One of the prospective bidders had announced plans of building a new stadium near Staples Center, while at the same time dispensing with any sentimental feelings over the history of Dodger Stadium (which would become a new housing development). No word on what the Glazers would do but I’m in favor of leaving the Stadium alone.

Is Lasorda a master of baseball strategy? No. Is he the best living case that motivation, morale and intangibles may actually mean something, despite all the ridicule they get from us on these boards? Yes.

New stadium? Say it ain't so! Something sounds lyrical when you say "Chavez Ravine". Also, the location of the stadium reflects the support of the Latin community.
No one would cry if Evans left, but all in all I think Tracy is a fine manager. He's been cursed with a lineup that leaves no margin for error. McGriff, who was never hurt in 16 years, suddenly goes on the DL twice with the Dodgers. Beltre is writing his ticket out. Opposing pitchers have figured out Shawn Green and he has proven he cannot adjust. Dave Roberts gets hurt - a leg injury of course. And Dreifort is gone for what should have been a breakout year. Any new owner is going to find it easy to make changes to this team.

Tib, good points. I was not down on Tracy until this year.
I still think he "overmanages" and the fact that he could not get along with Karros and Grudz is troublesome but he is sort of handcuffed with the roster he has. This season I was angry to see him toe the company line with when he spoke about how the Dodgers don't need to make any trades and all the talent they have is already in the dugout. On the other hand, if he was spouting off about how management was not getting him the players he needed, he'd lose the confidence of the players and probably alienate himself from upper management. Either way, tough situation. With $18 mill freed up with the departures of Jordan and Ashby at seasons end, that's some money they can use to pick up a real star.
