New Personality Model a Fail

The new personality model is a step backward. Why have the numeric ratings (or, at least the option to use them) been taken away? The new throw away lines are pointless and tell us little. What is the logic behind this change?

Please bring them back. The extra clicking to go to the editors page is a little annoying.E

I really dont want to. We had a perfectly fine feature for the last few iterations of the game. Then they decided to take this feature in a Baseball Mogul direction.

I have to reluctantly agree. At least make it optional to have numbers vs the sentence.

Also, maybe its just me, but I seem to pick up and retain the info easier if its all numeric.

You know you can view these numbers on the players "BNN Player Page." Yes, it's something I'd like to have on his profile page, but I'm not sure I'm ready to poo poo the way Markus has it now until I can see the long time effects of just what these phrases mean in regards to a players development.

I never use that page so thanks for pointing that out. If Markus must use phrases, then shouldnt there be a phrase for each of the personality categories?

Yeah, I never use these pages much either. Their really only used for online leagues or when trying to view a players history.

While I do agree it should be optional, I don't spite the addition at all. I mean, it's not like GMs can go around and see a player in the draft and say: "Hmm, he isn't very talented, but he has a 9 in work ethic and a 2 in greed so he has a good head on his shoulders." They rely on what they hear from their scouts and such, which would come in the form of a statement, not in the form of ratings.

Not necessarily. Why couldnt they give a numeric rating to work ethic or intelligence? Greed and demand for a winner are other matters that maybe should evolve over time.

I refuse to move on from OOTPX until Markus puts back the numbers on the profile page. If that means I have to quit my online leagues once they switch then so be it. He takes away things every version it seems like and for the most part he gets away with it since presumably most would rather have something than nothing. Well, I'm making my stand here with personality ratings. I haven't yet bought OOTP11 and I won't until he puts in an option to have them back. Yup, I'm only one person so what's he really going to care, but I don't care anymore either then. I was hopeful we'd see them back in by release or the first patch and I still have a glimmer of hope, but it's not much. Oh well, life sucks, whine whine.

I prefer the descritpions, but numbers should be an option for those who want them.

If that is seriously your reason for not buying 11, then I'm not sure you can be reached. There are a number of additions to the new game; I just don't see how one small design decision can be that large of a difference-maker. Of course, I prefer the new way in that it's just not realistic to know up front that a guy has a "121 greed". What does that even mean?

So anyway, feel free to not buy the game for this reason, I guess. It makes zero sense to me, but such is your right.

I much prefer the new style myself. It seems more realistic when dealing with such a subjective area like personality profiles. It's in line with how scouts describe players: "He has a good head on his shoulders," "He's dumb as a brick," "Thinks only of himself," "Good influence in the clubhouse." That is much more meaningful to me than greed = 9.

Like I said, you can view these on the players BNN page. You might also consider there's a lot of people who like the new method.

Couldnt disagree more. The lines are way over the top; they dont allow for nuance and they really arent realistic. Worst of all, they are ponderous. I want to quickly scan these things..not try to interpret what some knock off line really means. But they should be optional.

Also, except for intelligence, personality rating should evolve over the course of a players career like they do in real life.

I indicated reluctant agreement with Babs. I supported the feature initially but find the descriptions less than compelling. I'd prefer comments like "Joe Blow is a gamer", "does what it takes to win". Negative comments like "just in it for money", or, "he is a class A jerk ( I really mean something else

)" would help. I'm certainly not calling for this feature to be removed just made optional. I think, in time, I'd get used to it. Man, I'm wishy washy today.

That's a pretty low threshold. If I took the same view based on features I didn't like or changes like playoff rosters not locked etc., I may not have purchased any version since v2006. However the removal of the option to use the old system is irritating to say the least.
