Rule changes to MLB All-Star Game

I just came across this; I hadn't heard about it at all. Apparently, several of the rules regarding the MLB All-Star Game have been changed, effective for this season's game.

The changes include the DH now being use regardless of whether the game is being played in an AL or NL park, and rosters are increased in size to 34 players, up from 33.

Rules Changes Will See DH No Matter if AL or NL for MLB All-Star Game

Yeah, I saw that a couple days ago. Changing to always DH at least for the ASG is really probably for the best no matter how you normally feel about it. I'm sure no AL fan wants to see their ace get injured in a freak batting or running to 1B accident.

And as for the roster #, does anyone really care if it's 25 or 40? I don't. Sure, it waters down the prestige of being named an all-star, but with the every team requirement and fan voting it doesn't really mean a whole lot anyway.

I thought I'd heard that they are going to make it so a batter who has left the game can return to the line up. I thought that was the most crazy rule change of the bunch.

The problem with using the DH is that you're going to end up with more players not seeing any action at all since that will eliminate three or so pinch hitting opportunities per game. Other than that, it is probably for the best, I guess.

Only a pre-designated player, and only in the case of injury. It's not too big of a deal.

Ehh, tell me when they get rid of that "winning league get WS home field advantage" abomination.

Baseball's all-star game is still more interesting than any of the other ones.

Make it World versus USA that would be good and a City Stars versus others to like in NHL. Play it in cities where theirs not a MLB team like Hawaii,Orlando,Las Vegas,Monterry,Mexico,Dallas Cowboys new Dome and so on.

I think the field in the ASG should be color coded so that any ball hit into a color coded zone will be worth so many runs. And every player in the league should be on the roster so fans in Japan can vote via internet for the next batter to come up.
