I think it *is* kept somewhere, you're right. That said, if it helps, HR length is 100% cosmetic. If you have high HR ratings in large parks (Coors Field for example), you'll see longer HRs hit in those parks. Otherwise, there *might* be some factor in there that causes guys with higher Power to hit longer HRs on average than guys with lower Power, and of course if you have 40 HRs in a season you've got twice as many chances to hit a 450 foot bomb than if you hit 20, but outside of that it's just a fun little stat I think.
