You'll get some real strange results with the dev engine only. Like Tim Foli as batting champ and making the Hall of Fame. Might as while play fictional. Plus last time I played dev only players were stuck with their original break into MLB position. No moving old OFs to 1B. This may have changed for 22 but I don't think so.

I like recalc 3 year dev on but I like there to be some mystery about when a player will be good and how good he will be. That appears not to be your goal, so I suggest single year recalc for your situation.

Real isn't "real" in the commonly understood meaning of the word. It's neutralized to the game's park factors. Obviously on multi year there's a smoothing of the performance highs and lows but this happens on single year too.

On single year ratings for years of "outlier" performances ratings are reduced. Consider 1961. Maris hit 61 HRs and Mantle hit 54. Both are reduced because they're "outlier" years but Maris' is more of an outlier for him than Mantles is for him (compared to their next highest HR years). So Maris gets reduced more and even on single year ratings Mantle will usually hit more HRs than Maris.

You didn't mention neutralized but I'll say here don't use it. The neutralized file is neutralized against something other than the game's park factors.

There are two threads in the historical forum dealing with these issues. They have a lot of additional information.
