An update, if anyone is interested:

I ended up buying the iMac (27"), and when running at full-screen, Mac OS does end up rendering OOTP 18 at 2560x1440 but displaying it at the full 5120x2880...

Does anyone here play OOTP18 on a Retina iMac (either the 21.5" 4k or 27" 5k)?

If so, how does the game (or MacOS) handle scaling the resolution of the game to Retina/Hi-DPI screens?
