All Decades Teams

Hello all,
New to posting in the forum, but not new to OOTP. Decided to put together a Historical game with teams from each decade.

Here are the specifics:
-14 teams divided into 2 sub-divisions:
Golden League: Pre1890s, 1890s, 1900s, 1910s, 1920s, 1930s, 1940s
Modern League: 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s
-Random debut league
-1987 locked settings for style of play, no financials
-DH allowed (hate the DH, but wanted more hitters to play)
-Rosters include 13 position players (2 catchers) and 12 pitchers (at least 5 SP, but no limit on # of SP). Reserve roster (no limit).
-Initial draft: 25 rounds. To be drafted, the player must have played in at least 5 years in the team's decade or played the majority of time in that decade, if less than 5. (This was a labor of love)
-Subsequent drafts: Six rounds held on December 15. To be drafted (or signed as a FA) by the team, player must have played at least one year in that team's decade. Full disclosure, I draft the first 3 rounds manually, auto-draft the rest and then clean up the rosters after and use free agency to add additional players.
-Active rosters determined by # of stars overall. Use personal judgment to make tiebreaking decisions. Lineups/Depth Charts and Pitching Staff determined by Bench Coach.
-Sim everything as the commish controlling all teams (no trades to keep players in their decade)
-All Ballparks set with the same dimensions 330, 345, 370, 400, 370, 345, 330 with 1.000 modifiers across the board.
-Injuries turned off.

I'll post some updates as the league progresses! Hope you enjoy!

Season 1 (1987)

The inaugural season was dominated by the team from the 1800s who led the league wire to wire en route to their first championship of the All Decades League. Their success was due in large part to the offense provided by the MVP of the league, Dan Brouthers and the elite pitching of the Cy Young Award winner, Terry Larkin. Larkin posted a pitching Triple Crown leading the league in Wins, ERA, and Strikeouts.

*Recognized that an odd number of teams caused an issue with scheduling 162 games. Split up the dominant 1800s team into two teams: Pre1890s & 1890s.

Season 2 (1988)

“It’s deja-vu all over again”. In a rematch of the 1987 World Series, the 1890s from the Golden League defeated the 2010s in a classic 7 game championship series. Leading up to the championship, the top two teams with over 100 wins during the regular season, were upset in the semi-finals, setting up the rematch.

Sam Crawford was named the MVP as he joined the 30/30 club, notching 42 HR and 34 SB. He followed up his league leading RBI total of 140 RBI with another 136 RBI season. The pitching categories continue to be dominated by pitchers from the 1800s as John Ewing led the league with 22 wins and a 2.86 ERA in winning his first Cy Young Award.

Apparently, the long ball is alive and well. The average number of home runs by team increased from 237 to 268 this season. The first two 50+ HR players emerged (Rogers Hornsby, 50 & Manny Machado, 61).

Pat Malone (1930s) and Phil Knell (1890s) both threw no-hitters in June of the 1988 season.

Season 3 (1989)

For the first time in All Decades League history, a team from the 21st Century did not participate in postseason play. The 1950s also qualified for postseason play for the first time in league history. However it was the team from the 1970s who reigned supreme, becoming the first team in the 20th Century to win a championship. For the 3rd consecutive season, the World Series went the distance.

A new HR King emerged as the single season record of 61 HRs only lasted one year. Sam Crawford (1900s) finished the season with a new league single season record of 64 HRs. Crawford also set a new season mark for RBI with 156.

In his first start of the 1989 season, Bob Turley (1950s) threw the 3rd no-hitter in league history, striking out 14 batters.

The first 4 HR games were recorded in 1989 by Gary Redus (1980s) and Sam Crawford (1900s).

Final Standings

1989 World Series

Richard (1970s), the 1970s became the first team outside of the 19th century to win an All Decades League championship. Scott hit .600 with 4 HRs in the World Series victory.

Love the team names!

Actually they're perfect. You don't have to figure out what they mean. Like the BMW and Mercedes and Volvo models used to be.

Season 4 (1990)

The third time was a charm for the 2010s as they won their first All Decades League championship with a 5-4 Game 7 victory over the 1890s. Despite a 3-1 series lead for the 2010s, the World Series once again came down to a game 7 to decide it all. Carlos Gonzalez (2010s) delivered the final blow with a 2 out, walk-off HR over the left center field wall to let the celebration begin.

Jesse Tannehill (1900s) threw a no-hitter in September allowing only 2 baserunners against the 1910s. Tim Murnane (Pre1890s) had the third 4 homer game in league history in the last series of the season against the 1890s. For the fourth consecutive season, a member of the 1900s has won the RBI title with Sam Crawford (1900s) accomplishing the feat for the 3rd time in four seasons. Despite leading the Golden League in wins in each of the last 3 seasons, the 1900s have yet to win a playoff series.

Round 1 Playoffs
1890s over 1900s (4-3) - It came down to a winner-take-all game 7, featuring 2 of the top 5 winningest starting pitchers over the brief history of the All Decades League (Jesse Tannehill, 66 W’s vs. John Ewing, 73 W’s). However, the offenses of both teams came out swinging with each team hitting a 2 run HR in the 1st inning. The 1890s continued to add runs, knocking Tannehill out of the game in the 3rd inning en route to a 13-7 victory. Mike Smith (1890s) led the way with 13 RBI in the series win.

Round 1 Playoffs
2010s over 1970s (4-1) - Trey Mancini’s (2010s) 2 HRs in games 1 & 2 powered the 2010s to their 3rd World Series appearance in 4 years.

1990 World Series
2010s over 1890s (4-3) - In the deciding game, Jose Quintana (2010s) and John Ewing (1890s) locked up in a pitching duel until the 1890s scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th to take a 4-2 lead. However, a 2 RBI single by Cody Bellinger (2010s) in the 8th inning knotted the game at 4. Season 5 (1991)

1991 was the year of the batter. New league single season records were established in AVG, OPS, HR, RBI, & SB. The top 3 hitting teams in a single season emerged with the 1950s topping the league with an all time best team batting average of .285. Despite the offensive onslaught, Reb Russell (1910s) set a single season best mark for ERA.

Both Round 1 playoff series went the distance. The 1900s advanced to the World Series for the first time in 4 playoff appearances, while the 1890s advanced to their 2nd consecutive World Series. The 1991 World Series was the first time two teams from the same division matched up. The 1890s celebrated their 2nd World Series championship with a 4-1 victory in Game 5 over the 1900s.

A few notable moments from the 1991 season included:
-On June 14, Toad Ramsey (Pre1890s) threw the All Decades League’s first perfect game vs the 1920s, striking out 18 batters along the way.
-Derek Jeter (2000s) recorded the first 30 game hit streak in league history.
