Utility to add a 2nd league?

Since OOTP is inept when it comes to what should be a simple thing like adding a second league (I am making the turn into 1901 and need this), is there a utility?

I'm crossing my fingers, I don't want 15 years plus Catobase work going down the drain.

I don't know of one, but you may be able to pull it off somehow with CSVs or with Pierre's import/export utilities; not adding a league, but moving your current league into a league set up for two.

Most people I've seen do a full history of baseball, though, start with two leagues, and just keep the second one empty until 1901, so I don't know if anyone's actually tried any of this.

I began my National Association league comprised of two leagues. in 1870 with fictional players. The following year, I imported the real rookies. I went through and edited the ages of many players so that most would have a shot at a full career. It is simple to do, just take one league and divide it into two until that second league is actually needed.

The real National Association folded in 1875, but my league did not. It just became the National League.

The league filled up through 1882 and 1884 with the American and Union Associations.

It is now 1886 and I have split my league up into two completely different files: Major League Baseball and the Union Association. Major League Baseball is now 95 percent historical players (I still have a few fictional ones hidden in the minors). I am playing the history of Major League Baseball out in this league.

For the Union Association, I simply copied the major league baseball file, changed the name to the Union Association, and deleted all of the Major League Baseball teams. Both leagues are rooted in that original 1870 league and have the same history up to the 1885 split. For the Union Association, I have a full complement of teams (40 I think) and play one team in each league. For this league, I have financials turned on.

The best aspect is provided through Pierre's Magical Import/Export feature. Often in the 19th century records, you'll find a player who only played a few years or maybe even just one. That player gets imported over from Major League Baseball to the Union Association.

I am running both leagues simultaneously. My two Union Association teams are the Cincinnati Pioneers (consisting of old players from the amazing 1869 Reds) and the New York Knickerbockers.

The method we use to use was broken in OOTP6. You use to be able to create a dummy 8-team (or how many teams you needed), 2-league file and the copy over the pertaining dat files over to your old league and it would be trasformed into a setup with 2 leagues, now when you use this process you get the 'invalid player' error.

I never played around with OOTP6 enough to find out if there was a way around this, if I get time and can find all my installtion files for OOTP6 (mainly the receipt with my order ID) then I will fiddle around with some of the league files to see if there is a way to split up a league.

OK, because I would be pretty bummed to have to start over.

If creating a new league and importing the teams, players, histories, etc worked, would I also be able to retain my Catobase history?

I don't see why it wouldn't work Shorty. Cato works extremely well with expansion teams, and this would seem like an expansion league, so to speak.

Copying over a 2-league league.dat doesn't work anymore? I could have sworn it did... If it doesn't, that sucks, it really was the only easy way to add a league...

Wow, I said **** it and started over, with a 2nd league with no teams as someone said they have done.

Well now at the end of this season there is no process to next season button. Anyone know how I can get around this? Whys this so ****in' difficult..

It didn't back when V6 was first released, I haven't played the game in over a year so this may have been changed in a patch. Doubtful though since this was done to fix a problem in online leagues, you could use the same process to circumvent the commish having a password set since it was stored in one of the dat files you were changing.

Another problem that I belive arose with V6, if there is a second league with no teams in it the the league becomes fubar when it wants to try to process the postseason (even if playoffs are actually disabled). And to answer your previous question, Catobase would still work if a league was split into 2 leagues since it relies more on team ids and abbreviations than anything else. I know it worked with V5 since I did a similar thing, ran a 1 league set-up NA/NL/AA up till 1901 and then I split the league into 2 leagues, CatoBase still retained all the previous stats.

What you may need to do is have a 4-team in each league set-up and then just disable the playoffs.
