It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to - an alternate reality dynasty
In a development, which is obviously shocking, the Walton family has purchased Major League Baseball for the hefty sum of seventeen billion dollars. Each of the five members of the Walton family – Robson, John, Jim, Helen, and Alice – has an estimated net worth of eighteen billion dollars and, consequently, each family member is part of a virtual five way tie for the eleventh richest person in the world. Before the purchase of Major League Baseball, the family had a combined wealth of ninety-one billion dollars. That total is nearly double that of the world’s richest man – Bill Gates, who has an estimated net worth of forty-six billion. The Walton’s wealth was inherited from Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart.
The Walton family has announced that it intends to return baseball to its glory days when it was the true national pastime. Toward that end, the Walton’s will not sell any of the individual clubs to outside investors but will instead appoint a director, with commissioner like duties, to oversee all of the franchises and ensure some co-operation, with the goal of producing the best product possible. The director they have selected is Stephan Glass, who is not best known for his love of the game. Glass is reported to have pitched the idea to the Waltons at a DC area restaurant, the Palm. The events depicted in this thread are entirely fictional and any similarity to any real persons or organizations is purely coincidental. |

The Associated Press has obtained the details of the settlement reached between Major League Baseballs owners to divide the money:
New York Yankees: 2B Boston Redsox: 1.5B New York Mets: 1B Anaheim Angels: 750M St. Louis Cardinals: 750M Chicago Cubs: 750M Los Angeles Dodgers: 750M San Francisco Giants: 750M Arizona Diamondbacks: 500M Houston Astros: 500M San Diego Padres: 500M Atlanta Braves: 500M Florida Marlins: 500M Philadelphia Phillies: 500M Baltimore Orioles: 500M Detroit Tigers: 500M Toronto Blue Jays: 500M Texas Rangers: 500M Seattle Mariners: 500M Cleveland Indians: 500M Chicago Whitesox: 500M Oakland Athletics: 300M Cincinnati Reds: 300M Kansas City Royals: 300M Tampa Bay Devil Rays: 300M Minnesota Twins: 300M Pittsburgh Pirates: 300M Milwaukee Brewers: 300M Colorado Rockies: 200M Washington Nationals: N/A The measure passed after a 25-4 vote, with 86% of the votes in favor of selling and the payment distribution agreement. George Steinbrenner and John Henry were philosophically opposed to giving up their teams. Athletics owner Lewis Wolff and Rockies owner Charles Monfort were not happy with their shares. Regardless, the measure had enough votes to pass. Nevertheless, Steinbrenner and Henry are promising legal action – Monfort and Wolff have not yet accepted any money but are unsure if they will pursue legal action. |

Thanks Craig!
Major League Baseball announced today that the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Kansas City Royals, Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, and Seattle Mariners will be disbanded on the grounds that they can not compete because of either talent or financial reasons or both. Additionally, Director Stephen Glass has determined that it is in the best interests of the league that the Chicago Whitesox, Cleveland Indians, Anaheim Angels, Texas Rangers, and New York Mets be disbanded. The elimination of these teams will reduce the number of teams to nineteen. However, the creation of five new teams will be announced shortly to bring the league to a total of twenty-four teams. |

I got rid of most the teams that I didn't care for and kept the ones that I liked. I almost kept the Indians out of respect for Bob Feller, but no dice. Clowns is an aces name but I'm not a really a fan of Shepherds.

Hirings/Firings
Director Glass announced that four general managers and three managers have been released. Ed Wade and Charlie Manuel from Philadelphia, Dave Littlefield and Lloyd McClendon from Pittsburgh, Jim Hendry and Dusty Baker from Chicago, and Dan O’Brien from Cincinnati are all out. Mark Shapiro, formerly of the Cleveland Indians, and Willie Randolph, formerly of the New York Mets, will take over in Philadelphia. Bill Stoneman and Mike Scioscia, formerly of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, will take over Pittsburgh. Ranger’s duo John Hart and Buck Showalter will get the call in Chicago. Finally, Doug Melvin is the new head man in Cincinnati. As for the new teams, the New Orleans Clowns will have Rob Neyer as General Manager and Tony Pena as manager. John Sickles will be the Salt Lake Cowboys' General Manger while Frank Robinson will manage the team. Bill James will serve as the General Manager for Dallas Eagles and Ned Yost will manage the team. Gerry Hunsicker, former Astros' General Manger, and Wally Backman, who very briefly held the position of Diamondbacks' Manager, will take the reigns of the Las Vegas Vice. Last, and in this case least, John Kruk has been named Oklahoma City Wranglers' GM and he has selected Ozzie Guillen to manage the team. |

I guess I'll have to root for the Dallas team since you disbanded the Rangers. Question though, why disband the Rangers just to place another team in the same area?

Once those players had been assigned, each established team was assigned an unemployed player. The Redsox and the Yankees did not receive a player because their former owners received an injunction to have their respective franchises rosters frozen until the dispute is settled.
San Diego Padres - CF Carlos Beltran Arionza Diamondbacks - CF Rocco Baldelli Atlanta Braves - 1B Travis Hafner Oakland A's - LF Aubrey Huff Baltimore Orioles- LF Brad Wilkerson Boston Redsox - N/A Chicago Cubs - RF Jose Guillen Cincinnati Reds - SP Jeremey Sowers Detroit Tigers - 1B Prince Feilder Florida Marlins - CL Francisco Rodriguez Houston Astros - C Mike Piazza Los Angeles Dodgers - 3B David Wright Minnesota Twins - 2B Rickie Weeks New York Yankees - N/A Philadelphia Philies - 3B Adrian Beltre Pittsburgh Pirates - RF Delmon Young San Francisco Giants - 3B Hank Blalock St. Louis Cardinals - C J.D.
