Can't pinch hit with a pitcher?

Sorry if this has been asked before...I did a search and got tired of reading every thread titled "OMG PITCHER BUG!!!11111" or whatever.

In my solo league, I have a starting pitcher who has a higher average than half of my team. Recently, I was playing an extra inning game. I was down one run and had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs...and the relief pitcher was coming up to bat. I had used my whole bench, and didn't have a pinch hitter available, so I thought "Why not put in the starter? He can hit!"

So, I inserted him into the lineup in the pitcher slot. But, it wouldn't let him hit. It kept the other reliever up to bat, and he dribbled out to the pitcher.

Then, in the box score, it notes that my starter pinch-hit...but shows him 0 for 0, just like he actually was.

???

Never have been able to PH w/ pitcher, been suggested, many, many, many times by myself and many others......bottom line just currently a shortcoming of the game.

Thanks.

The only surprising thing is that I've taken this long to try and pinch hit with a pitcher (as I've been an avid OOTP gamer since the beginning of v3).

But you can pinch run with a pitcher. I just saw this yesterday in one of my online leagues. First time I noticed that

The "game" will do some things in online leagues on behalf of the human owners that the human owners can't do themselves....like this.

A workaround (if you are not in manager mode) is to open the player and edit his position to something other than pitcher. Then you can use him as a pinch hitter. Just remember to put him back as a pitcher after the game.
