is there a way to play in windowed mode

I dunno. I think the way to do it is have your screen resolution higher. Mine is at 1150 something x 856 or something.. Give it a shot.

I think that it depends on your graphics card, monitor and video drivers.

I play in "window" mode @ 1400 X 1050 - 32 bpp

You can't resize the window's size, if that's what you're asking. It's stuck at 1024x768.
