Question CPU won't use pitcher as a pitcher

One of the teams in my league has a 4-star middle relief prospect at AA. This prospect also has a position rating for RF. This guy is a pitcher, he has good pitcher ratings and good pitching talent. He is not a hitter, he's got a pitcher's hitting ratings and talents.

Before the last sim, the owner of this team pointed out to me that this pitcher had no pitching appearances despite the season being a month old and he hadn't been injured, but he had 80 at-bats (he was 3-for-81 to be exact), which indicated that the CPU was using him as an everyday player. The owner had not placed the pitcher in his AA lineup and had him assigned as the first set-up man on his AA staff. The owner's AA team only has 4 position players, none of them RFs, and 4 other pitchers on it right now.

So, I opened up the editor and removed the pitcher's ratings for RF, hoping that would do the trick. It didn't do squat. Another week of the season went by and still no pitching appearances but 20-25 more at-bats. The CPU still considers him as a RF. If you place him in the lineup at RF, it doesn't say he's being taught the position, it acts like he already knows how to play RF.

I then decided to do some experimenting. It turned out the only way to get the CPU to use him as a pitcher was to demote/promote him to a roster that already had all the outfield and DH positions filled. However, if any of those spots opened up, he was back to full-time bad hitter. Just signing free agents to fill those spots at AA didn't work as it just relegated the pitcher to the bench. I had to demote/promote him and then return him to AA first to get the CPU to use him as a pitcher.

I recommended to the owner to promote the pitcher to AAA where he will actually pitch, plus the game considers him ready for AAA anyway. However, this is at best a temporary fix. I cannot keep the CPU from plugging the pitcher into the lineup should the team owner call-up one of the outfielders.

Does anyone know of a fix for this, if one exists? Will it correct itself for next season since he won't be going into next season with any positional ratings other than pitcher and we'll just have to work around it the best we can in the meantime?

Thanks - Brad
