Anderson Utilities
I am starting to write some utilities for this software. I have started my first one and it seems to be working, at least on my computer.
The first program is a piece of software that will search through your box scores for a certain name. It will then create a new html file based on the name you searched for with links to all of the box scores. This is designed for leagues that use the internet to display the standings. You of course have to have to upload the box scores to the server. The procedure to use this first program is to create the HTML files first. Then copy my EXE program into that folder (c:/leaguesite by default) and then run my program. There is a button to locate the leaguesite folder in case it is not the default location. Then enter the name you want to search for. (i.e. n. ryan). The program converts everything to lowercase, so capitalization is not important. Of course, if there is a Nolan Ryan and a Nippy Ryan, this first version will not work. If you know that there is only one Zigfield in your league, you can enter just zigfield, or just zig if there is only one zig type name. You could also enter a team name, like ATLANTA, of course, it would include any box scores with Jesse Atlanta on it. There are other things you could search for, like "PLAYER OF THE GAME: Eric McAfee" (do not add the quotes) to display all games where Eric was player of the game. Or, "at Toronto Field" to display all games at Toronto Field. Basically, look at a box score and look for unique phrases to search for. Please give the program a try and see how it works for you. It has no commands to alter any data, so it cannot screw up your league if used properly. NOTE: You MUST have .net foundation to use the program. When the program is complete, it will have an install program that checks for this and allows you to download it. If you are using XP and have SP2 installed, more and likely you have the .net foundation software installed. You can obtain it through Windows update. I have NOT tested this in any operating systems except XP. You can download the program at http://www.sim2005.com/oop1.htm It contains the exe, a very small 9kb program and a text file. Please e-mail me at larry@cfl.rr.com or post here if you try it and let me know what you think. The output will be 'prettied' up in later revisions. Larry Anderson

Given that roughly the same criteria exists on the personal PC when web pages are generated there, is there any possibility this could be modified or utilized in conjunction with any other software to enable a local search capability for those pages? Thanks for the contribution.

I just tried this: I copied my EXE file to the box score folder: C:\Program Files\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP 6\A1901.lg\LEAGUE_NEWS_BOX I ran it and entered a persons name and it created the file. I opened the newly created file and clicked on one of the links and it displayed the box score perfectly.

Version 1.01 is on the site now. I created a page to download it from at:
http://www.sim2005.com/oop1.htm I also added a what's new section to tell what I added to the new version of the program. I plan on some very nice utilities coming up here. Basically they will be creating information based on the files the OOTP program creates, the box score files, transaction files, and anything else that I am able to read. I do need help in suggesting what you would like to see and testing it on different systems. None of the programs are going to modify any existing files, it will be creating new files, so they will be safe to use on your league.

The program is starting to look pretty interesting.

Arousing my curiosity. I'm d/ling .net framework now.
Another modifiable-oriented question as I'll be looking at this on the local PC as I mentioned: Will this, in any form, be able to review the game logs instead of or in addition to the box scores? That'd be interesting. Right now I'm thinking of various grand slam references as this is one item not tracked in-game. I'll let you know once I look at it. Thanks L.

That sounds good. I do not pay much attention to the PbP, but I can see what you mean, looking for grandslams or triple plays. I will keep it in mind.
I think the program will turn into one that creates the HTMLs and also one that can view the boxes from inside the program. One thing I searched for was the word "consecutive decisions" and found a guy that had lost 11 in a row. In fact, it was his first 11 games. I was looking at the other text files and I see some other possibilities also.

And as it currently exists, can you safely or confidently combine a last name with a result, e.g. Miranda caught stealing or Miranda cycle, etc...? Again, thanks for putting the work into this. I can see some great results ahead.

Homeruns: J.Doe (1, 1st inning off Doe, 3 on, 1 out.) Problem is, I don't know how you could search for that without coming up with bases loaded doubles as well. |

Right now it is just a straight phrase search, but later versions I will add some boolean searchs, so you can seach for more interesting stuff.
As far as the grandslam, I can add a grand slam search. It would search for "Homeruns:" and then find the 3 on. I think I know a way to do it. Part of the problem is I am not searching just plain text, I am searching HTML, so there is a lot of code that I am searching that you do not see, like the BOLD commands, etc.

Has anyone tried the program? Is no one interesting in utility programs?

I'm downloading it right now. Seems like it'd be a lot of fun, if nothing else.
Thanks! |

Don't give up !! It's sometimes easy to throw in the towel if there appears to be little interest, but many folks here don't visit regularly and this particular season there's no new game to keep attendance up ![]() If you move forward and have a couple utilities done (even if not in final form) when the masses start coming back, you'll have a lot more interest. ps: There are some other game generate HTML reports that have valuable info in them too - be nice to have a utility to search those as well. |

Larry,
That is very cool! If I may suggest something, however: Once a serach is complete, it'd be great if you could launch the generated HTML file direct from the app, rather than having to open in manually. I'm not sure if you were planning on including that in future versions, but it'd be a very nice little shortcut to have. Again, great work! |
