Another crash. It seems if I do a lot of roster work and trades during a season (as opposed to just simming with few trades), there's about a 1-in-3 chance of the game crashing when I push "Proceed To Next Season," and since I backup at the end of each season, the unseen corruption is in the most recent backup as well and I lose the season. And don't say "Back up more often." It takes half an hour and has to be monitored. I know there are other time-consuming workarounds, but this is a game. I'm not supposed to have to work just to make it function properly. Trades, which are among my favorite parts, take FOREVER, and apparently mess up the game. The OOTP is fun, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth the frustration.

Let me first say, I'm simply seeking to understand. I've not seen a reported crash or concern during your first 11 posts dating back a year ago. So ... I naturally want to look for more information about what IS, what CHANGED, and WHEN.
Obviously, at least it seems, the game has not always given you this degree of difficulty. Is your system, hardware included, still the same? Was the 6.12 patch installed anywhere near the most recent problems? What IS your system? etc.... The more information you can provide, the better questions we are able to introduce. And don't say, "It's not me, it's the game." That too takes much more than a half an hour and way more monitoring to filter toward a possible resolution. On a side note, I have seen trades temporarily hang my own use of the game while "thinking", but have not concluded just why it occurs OR decided it occurs so often it bears any additional scrutiny --- yet. Thanks in advance. Hope someone will be able to improve your current condition.

As much as anything, I was just expressing frustration. There are no advance warnings that something is becoming or has become corrupt. No ways (that I am aware of) to discern where the problem is so it can be fixed. After putting the time I put into some seasons, I'd be willing to dig into the .dat file and fix things (which, I know, goes against what I said earlier), but there seem to be no options but losing all the info back to the last clean backup. And like I said, it seems if I just say "Sim season", replace injured players, run the draft, and move as fast as possible, nothing goes wrong. It's the key seasons where I'm transitioning the team and making bunches of trades when it occurs. And normally, because I've invested so much in the process, doing it again is almost out of the question. I usually just retire, let the game run few years without my intervention and start a new managing career. Which sucks.

Obviously this is the nuclear option, but have you tried delicensing, uninstalling, deleting your OOTP directory, and starting anew?

Btw the above posters "nuclear option" isnt that big of a deal if you got a copy of your league directory a fresh install might be a good idea. Just reinstall copy the league directory and see what happens. I really thing its got to be an issue with your hardware or conflicts with some software your running. Actually, the semi-nuclear option worked. This time the problem wasn't with the Player.dat file (which is the normal problem area), but with the program itself. I couldn't restore any season. (And it doesn't take half an hour to back up--but it sure seems like it.) Uninstalled/reinstalled the program, restored the league and I'm back where I left off. Still wish there was a repair utility for the player.dat file, though. Thanks for the suggestions.
