Catobase help (keep in mind that I am very computer illiterate)

Hey guys. I have owned OOTP6 for a long time, and just recently discovered Catobase. I figured that it would a be a great touch to all the fictional leagues that I run. However, when I downloaded it and seemed to follow all the step by step instructions that it gives me, I can never ever seem to get it to work, and it's frustrating because it seems like it should be so obvious. Whenever I try to "import stats," I always get an error that says

file not found
make sure the file exists and correct path is set in options menu

What exactly is the path that I need to set in the options menu? Do I export my league files to the same path? I am very confused, very frustrated, and very computer illiterate (obviously).

Can someone please give me a detailed step-by-step process on how to get the dang thing to work? Thanks a lot in advance.

Let's see what I can do...

In the program under File >> Options, the first thing that pops up is under the Input tab. For League Directory, put whatever the .lg folder for the league is in your OOTP6 folder. No need to do any exporting of anything or copying your league anywhere. For Data Directory, just put wherever you want all the CatoBase stuff to go - maybe a folder for that league wherever you downloaded CatoBase onto your computer. That is where the info the program needs to make its database will put all those files in convenient separated folders for each season. Speaking of which, choose the option to "run exporter & copy text files to data directory" so that indeed the program does those things automatically rather than in the past how that had to be done manually.

Under the Output tab for the Web Page Directory pick something for all the HTML files the program will make. I use the same thing as the Data folder mentioned above, except the data folder ends in "/data" and for this it ends in "/website" so both those things are in subfolders within the same directory.

With all the other options you have including under the other tabs you can set them however you want them. You may have to change things a little over time as you decide how you like things.

Once you set all that it should be almost just two steps. You push the import stats button, and it will do that. Then you push the create HTML pages button, and it will do that. In between the steps you may do a couple little things like under the Edit tab going under Award winners and manually adding Manager of the Year or Reliever of the Year which are not in OOTP so the program cannot import them.

All this assumes you have all the right versions of the program installed with the exporters also. Hopefully you do have that and just need to get the folder paths set. Once you get the hang of it, it will likely be extremely simple, but it does take a bit to figure out initially which folder names need to be put where in the program.

After you setup cato with the things gmo mentioned you will need to generate a league report. Remember this has to be done at the end of each season before proceding to next year and your league has to be at that point too. Go to online league setup in OOTP, you will see a path to generate the report in, the default is c:/leaguesite, then it asks if you want to generate logs and boxscores just set all 3 values to no as you dont need them. After you generate the report your ready to go. Remember that the path needs to be the same as in Cato, the default is the same in both Cato and OOTP so if you dont change anything you dont need to worry. After the import the files are copied into the data directory under the league year. Remember if your using multiple leagues you will need to change the /data and /website folders for each league. To make things easy I suggest making a dir with the name of your league for each league and /data, /website folders so there is no confusion. Also remember that if your starting with an existing league, previous years wont be imported or tabulated. You have to import after each season. In addition.. BACKUP, early and often. Backup your DB before importing anything into it, backup your league before importing and I suggest saving a backup from each season before import. That way if anything happens to your DB you can always start over from scratch agian and rebuild it.

If you use the latest version of CATOBASE you do not need to do this process. The new version, if you have installed version 5.4-6.0-6.14 in that order will import all the exporters. It is really as simple as:

In the CATOBASE program change the first input box from the default (create.lg) to your league name. Make sure you have the options set to your liking. The data and website directories will be filled in automatically based on the folder you created when you selected to create a new database.....
