beginner's league
Hi everyone...
I'm stealing this idea from someone else because it's a good one that hasn't been done yet. (That I know of)... I would like to start a small "beginner's league" for people new to OOTP to give online play a try. This way newbies could 1) find out if they like online play without screwing up an estabilished league, 2) get some experience so they don't get hosed by veterans. This league could also be for players to learn how to commish. Basically, the league would provide an environment conducive to learning by decreasing the competitive expectations. So, I'd like to get building the website for this league and was wondering if there's a good primer out there for starting an online league? Also, I was wondering if there were so good OOTP tools for website generation? One more... if any of you know of a league that is like this, please give me the link. Other comments? -Bryce |

The best primer for starting an online league is participating in one.

I think about 99.99% of the owners out there (certainly the fictional and historical ones, I can't speak for the modern ones but I'm sure the good leagues there are the same) wouldn't think about ripping off new players, try to offer fair deals (and when those deals aren't fair, it's normally the 'vets' fault for misvaluing the players!), and explain anything that might be complicated. I suppose I've heard a lot about how newcomers get made to feel unwelcome in some online ventures, and just wanted to stress that there are plenty of great leagues out there with openings that welcome and encourage rookie owners, and are there to help them, not hose them. |

I learned to play (and continue to learn) by simply joining a league and I find that there are many leagues that are acomidating to new players. I still think there could be some benefit to have a league specifically first timers. For example, you could practice negotiating trades without having to worry about spending seasons recovering from a bad one. It could also be a place to teach online league ettiquette. Etc.
This thread is in now way intending to discourage beginners from joining one of the many leagues with opennings. Sorry if it seemed that way in my initial post. |

Personally I think it's not a bad idea. The only problem I see is that I wouldn't join a league in which competing wouldn't be that important. No matter if you're new or a veteran it's all about winning isn't it ?
When I was new (and young ), I wanted to join an online league because I was sick of the AI and wanted to kick some real ass.
