game loads, and then just disappears

very strange problem - I load up OOTP6, and right after it has loaded the league , the whole game just shuts down without an error message or anything. This only happens with one league (a roster file I am currently editing) and I haven't done anything lately with my computer that I know of that would bring on such a problem. Another strange thing that may have something to do with this is that most of my Firefox bookmarks have disappeared; only one folder remains. I've tried running a system restore to no avail.

I've put in at least 40 hours editing these rosters so obviously I want to figure out this problem. One other thing - if I initially load up a different league and then once in the game I open up the league in question, there are no problems.
Basically it just doesn't like opening the game with this league.

Please, anybody?

what are you editing it with? oh and your not editing it when you have the game open are you? Thats a big no no and good way to corrupt your league. If its no then the league might be corrupt already. Hopefully you have a backup?

I'm editing in-game, with nothing else open. I've seen some things in the last 30 minutes that may indicate a corrupt file, such as 3 or 4 players that are not even actually players - they just have some symbols such as (), *1343243 and so on. I then noticed one player that had some crazy statistics even before the season started, like 650 RBI. I deleted him from the file and then ran the season. Everything went fine so I then proceeded to the next season and closed the game. I then opened the game with no problems. However, when I tried to open the game in the first season (after deleting the player) it still shut down on me. So getting to the 2nd season seemed to alleviate the problem..

I cleaned my computer today (as in the hardware) with a dust-sprayer and my wife may have brushed something with a damp cloth (but barely)...could this be the problem? It's strange that my bookmarks are gone too...

could have some corruption on the hard drive if you have other problems as well. Run a scan on the drive and fix any bad sectors, defrag and then see if things get better. If that is it though you may have lost the data for that league since it could be corrupted. You dont have a backup do you? Im thinking you have corrupt league files at the very least since you said other leagues worked. But with other problems you could be seeing a HD failure which is why i would run the scan.

yeah, I scanned the hard drive and ended up finding some corruption. Of course it didn't help the OOTP problem. I was hopeful of submitting these rosters for download, but unless some mastermind can fix them it looks like I'll be the only one using them.
