For those using Dave Williams Originator...
First I am curious as to how many players use the originator. I find the program very interesting and have not played a league without it....
Overtime I have found name files that I converted over to the originator format and I created location files for them. Here are the files I have. I am not sure who created some of these name files but I wish to thank the creator and hope that by modifying them I do not cause an issue - just want to share my origin files and needed the name files to make the "set"...I think I downloaded them from BSC or perhaps the download center.... Origin files in the zip are for the following countries: Wales England Germany France Czech Republic Scotland Sweden Ireland Poland Russia Finland Italy Norway and a Wisconsin/Minnesota file that includes all locations from the census bureau (18K). If anyone has a request for any State or States files let me know. I can create these quickly for "regional" fantasy leagues... I have not tested each location but if any of them are over 19 characters they risk being messed up within the game. If you find any let me know and I will change my master files, then you can just edit to fit. Germany had a lot of long city names when added with the "GER" at the end - for those of german descent I had accidently created my files with "FRG" at the end and quickly realized my error and changed them. I will zip the location and the names files in separate files, both can just be unzipped into the origindata folder that you use for the originator. The originator only allows you to use 20 elements in the list but you can create multiple defdata files and put the originator files in your league folder if you use this.....works like a charm for me...... Wow. Excellent work, SandMan. Very cool stuff.
Might I request a regional file with Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana for my Northwest League dynasty league? I'd be forever grateful.

I'm trying to get a new fictional league started in the Carolinas, so if you could make up a set of names and locations for North and South Carolina, I would be appreciative. Thanks.

Here it is - to use simply create a line in the same format as the us line in the defdata.dat file. If you use both the regional and the US please note that the us file frequencies are set at .0001 of base population and my files are set at .01 (to get all the small towns). The 4 state regional file has 848 cities for the four states. This has been tested and most players come out of Seattle, Spokane, and the larger cities..... you can edit the frequency if you want to get more small town players...... Also all cities over 16 characters have been modified a bit to fit into the game with out putting wierd characters on the player card (max. 20). Example Butte-Silver Bow is now Butter-Slvr Bow. I have not found any errors in my testing of this file.... Enjoy.... I have also included a modified version of MD names files. I usually have us players file using the regular lname, fname file for 12% and use MD's files for the other 88%, this way I get common us names and not too many of the non conventional (modern names).... Quick work! Thanks a million, SandMan!
This'll go in for the upcoming switchover to the 2011 season.

I would suggest using the old version (origins only) to change the current players origins, then opening the file in EXCEL and changing the heights field to a date (custom) to m-d to correct the height field from being converted to a date. Then you can import the player general back into the game, export it again before your first year player draft and then run the new Originator program with the new Origin files.... Seems harder than it really is. Did this in about 5 minutes with a test file......... Another way is to make two copies of your player_general.csv and use the originator (the new one with the new origins) - changing all the players names and birth place. Then just copying the column from the first saved file to write the names back over the newly created names. You will still need to convert the height field as above, but this way will mean that you don't need both versions of the originator and all your players would then have a birth location in your region...... Again, if I can assist you in this task let me know - I would be happy to get a copy of your file and make the changes for you and get it back to you....prior to you next season . This would affect nothing in your current league and save your players NAMES.... Another note is that the old version of the originator does not use the same formats as the new and my files will not work with the origins only version, sorry about that.......for players that you don't want changed (names) you can do the second suggestion and copy the names back to the file. |

Quick Test....
The Origins only program WILL work with my files, BUT you need to save copies of all the origin files, copy my file to each of the origin files in the folder. example CU_Origin (cuba) will be replaced with the NWREG_orgin.dat file (copied/renamed). Do this for each of the origin.dat files and all the players currently in your league will have their birth places changed but their names remaining the same, simpler than the cut and paste method in my previous but not necessarily less time consuming - took me about 10 minutes to do my test league..........

Thanks SandMan. I will definitely use the Carolina origins when I get my league up and going. Now on to logos/uniforms...thanks again.

![]() I think from the instructions you gave I can preserve the names, but if I have any troubles, I'll definitely drop you a message. Thanks again!
