Catobase Processing Time

I've been using catobase for a number of years now. It takes longer and longer to process each year. Its nearly doubled in time from the first season. My question is, is that processing time going to level off at some point or is it going to continue to take longer to process every year?

It gets longer each season. I had one league that took over 35 hours (not a typo) to process the html pages.....After a while you will just import the stats every year but process the html every 5 or so seasons recalculating Winshares and Team pages. This takes a long time.....but the overall product is a nice encyclopedia of your league.....I personally do my CATO on a second pc now so that I can still play while the stats are being generated........

thanks for the info. I like catobase a lot but i'm not sure its worth it anymore. I was hoping it would level off at some point.

Yeah I love the program too. I wish that if Mr. Cato was not going to support the program that he would at least release the source code to programmers. I would love to make this into a quicker program using the current database but allowing the end user to pick specific pages to print this way you can get your annual pages quick at the end of the year and then run the massive page creation as you sleep - wake up and there they are.....Simple idea and all it would take is a recompilation of the program with a INI file to determine which routines to use to build the "REQUESTED" pages......

I have tried to reverse engineer the program by analyzing the data, but there is a lot of processing going on during the create html pages program - I'd need the source to make this work. Don't want to reinvent the wheel if all it needs is a simple overhaul.......

Or perhaps I was thinking of writing a CATOBASE LITE program that takes the data created with CATOBASE during the import function and my program would simply create the TEAM, LEAGUE, PLAYERS, LEADERBOARDS pages but without the WINSHARES, similarity scores and other data that is created in the CREATE HTML Pages. This would give you more stats than the almanac but not as much as the current program - the SAVINGS would be create in the time that it takes to build the pages - and players pages would not have to be rebuilt if the player is not ACTIVE (a few changes needed to the DB). The program would simple create the new pages as needed and the only CALCS required would be for the leaderboards, which also could be put into a table and not necessarily rebuilt each year.........

I would like to get MR Cato's permission to use the mdb files in the CATOBASE to do this program and perhaps to request usage of his fine program's source to re-write, but he has not been active on the boards for some time.....I am waiting to see if version 7.0 has these features (Maybe Jeff Cato is secretly working for Markus and cannot answer questions on the board due to a secret confidentiality agreement) - If the next version does not include this maybe I will get with CommishJoe and see if I can incorporate his fine exporters into a program I create to do a CATOBASE-like program (one with many more options for page creation)......

Yeah, cato dropped off the planet it seems. Hopefully you're able to get the source code. I'd be interested in catobase-lite or like program myself.

Hopefully markus does increase the amount of stats in the current almanac. I think markus would do well to create some sort of catobase type program. Unfortunately i think it will be difficult to create a similar program for OOTP7. With SI games and the new technology to run several leagues at once it may be more difficult to run the leagues. Also i don't believe in and version of championship manager or football manager was there an option to "generate report" which may make it increasingly difficult.
