Playing Appearing At Their Major League Debut

I've always been very frustrated with the fact that, even though OOTP has a minor league system, players appear at the time of their major league debut, often making it very awkward to put players in the minor leagues for the starts of their OOTP careers. Nobody else seems to care about it, but it bugs the heck out of me.

To that end, I've created a program that reads in the Lahman database, creates 3 "minor league years" for each player, and then spits out the new, modified database. The minor league years are created by taking a player's early career performance, then regressing 5% worse for the latest minor league year, 5% more for the next latest, and 5% more for the 1st. I am going to add a randomization factor. Essentially, this models a player with a 5% yearly progression, up to their rookie seasion (really their early career, i take their first 3 years or 1000 AB, whichever comes last, then regress that backwards at 5% a year). I was wondering what everyone thought of this approach, if anyone had any suggestions, and if anyone was interested in this.

Point:
This messes up service time. Say you do an import at 1971. Players who debut in 1969 will have 3 extra years of service time. Not good. I fixed this (i.e. plan on fixing it) by creating a modified lahman db tailored for your import year. If you are importing 1971, players debuting in 1971 or earlier have no years added. Player debuting in 1972 have 1 year added, 1973 have 2, 1974 have 3. This will drastically imbalance the first year draft, I haven't thought about how to fix that, but I guess those are the breaks. If you are assigning new players to their own teams it doesn't neccesarily matter anyway.

Thoughts?

I've never messed with historical because of the debut thing. I would definately use this.
