Incredible way to finish it off!

Ok, I'm doing a historical replay, and I'm all the way up to 1987. Only one franchise has never won a World Series. The St. Louis Cardinals have never even been in a World Series. They won the NL in 1904, but there was no Series that year. So 87 years without one. They finally make it in in 1987, and the Series is tied 3-3.

Pitching for the Cardinals is Ken Dayley, who did nothing in real life, but in my alternat world went 21-2 with a 2.07 in 1987, a freak year for him. He has alreadu lost games 1 and 4 of the Series. So here is his line for game 7
Code:
IP H R ER BB K HR PI PS
K. Dayley W 9 0 0 0 4 11 0 128 75
That's right, he won the World Series with a no-hitter. 2nd no-hitter in World Series history, and it ends an 87 year old drought. I accidentally clicked and lost the screen before I could PrintScreen, but oh well.

Unreal.

Awesome. Although, in Dayley's defense, he didn't "do nothing" IRL. He was a slightly above average pitcher with a career ERA+ of 103.

But no, he never did anything like 21-2 with a WS no-hitter. That's cool stuff.

I've never done the historical leagues. What percentage of the elite players in them were not elite players in reality?

I've done 3 historical replays so far, because they're just really fun. I tend to get 3-4 players who become HOFers who you never heard of before. Here are some stats from some guys in my replays:

You'll get 2-3 of these in each replay if you're rigorous about league totals and whatnot.

Just for the record, Dayley is not heading for this kind of career. Even in my league his 21-2 was way out of character. He nearly doubled his career win total with it.

With a quick glance, the formatting really messed that up. Had to double take

Edit: Talking about the initial post. Hell of a line!

Yeah, the formatting of the career totals line was off. I was hoping a direct copy/paste from Cato would work, but it didn't. I'm just a tad too lazy at the moment to edit it.

Great story

Ken Dayley lifetime: 573.2 IP, 3.64 ERA. From 1985 to 1989, Dayley's ERA was over 3.00 exactly once. Dayley pitched in four different post-season series with a very nice 0.58 WHIP.

I would not call that "nothing in real life."

Fair enough. My apologies to Ken Dayley fans out there. I'd never even heard of hi, and being a solid middle relievere still is nothing like what he's doing in my league.
