I was very surprised to see who won the award between these to guys.

Pitcher A: 18-5, 217 IP, 179 HA, 56 ER, 66 BB, 132 K, 2.32 ERA Pitcher B: 13-6, 197 IP, 150 HA, 37 ER, 63 BB, 175 K, 1.68 ERA Pitcher A won the award, despite being outpitched in every state except for wins. Who would you have choosen? Are wins weighted to much in the decision factor? |

Despite his other numbers, a player who only accounts for 13 wins isn't generally going to get a Cy Young-type award. I know as well as you do that pitching performance often has nothing to do with the number of wins he has (a bad bullpen can take away 5-7 wins a season from a pitcher), but voters in real baseball (as well as OOTP4, apparently), look and see how successful the player was to the team.

Hehe I just had the opposite occur in my league. Check out these two pitchers:

14-3, 191.2 innings, 2 CG's, 110 hits, 53 walks, 165 K's, 1.69 era, 30 GS 21-6, 266 innings, 10 CG's, 219 hits, 40 walks, 254 K's, 3.11 era, 35 GS The first guy won the POY which surprised the hell out of me. Now they are both on my team and the first one is my ace in truth but he was hurt and missed 5 starts and I figured wouldn't have enough wins to compete. His ERA was much lower but the other guy had 7 more wins, 70 more innings, 10 complete games vs. 2!, and 254 Ks!. Personally I wanted the first guy to win as he is my favourite pitcher (this guy has been my ace since the age of 21, now 25) but was sure it was going to my second pitcher. So wins must not mean that much afterall and apparently 13-14ish wins can be enough, even against 20+. |

If the ERA is good enough, nothing else matters...

After I believe the 2056 season, the Colorado Rockies were controversally contracted, after a year in which they made it to the World Series (some speculated this was due to them beat the Pirates in the NLCS, who were owned by the commisioner...Ridiculous). They were replaced with the Sacramento Dukes, I didn't really fill the roster with anything. So, anyway, they had a pitcher go 0-33, but gave up so many runs that his ERA must have reset, and finished with a .53 ERA, and won the Cy Young, while playing on a 2-160 team...
