All-Forum Dynasty (official thread)
Eccentric billionaire Bill Gates hit upon a way to revive baseball in the small towns and neighborhoods across America - a new professional league for everyday guys (and even some gals). Players would be paid about $40,000 a year and would play a regular 162-game schedule. There would be no trading and no free agency. Teams would come from small towns and neighborhoods all across North America. Hundreds of teams sent in their applications to be considered, and in the end teams from Atlantic City (NJ), Bethel Park (PA), Cooperstown (NY), Pittsfield (MA), Utica (NY), Valois (NY), Wantagh (NY), Worcester (MA), Bellaire (TX), Corvallis (OR), Fontana (CA), Nicholasville (KY), Racine (WI), and Treasure Valley (ID) were selected by a random drawing. The league was funded through Gates' donations and revenue from a new TV reality series called "Joy in Mudville."
The Atlantic City Jokers, Cooperstown Legends, Pittsfield Hillies, Utica Bluesox, Valois Vipers, Wantagh Wallbangers, and Worcester Knights were all placed in the Eastern Conference. The Bellaire Longhorns, Bethel Park Blackhawks, Corvallis Rivermen, Fontana Greyhounds, Nicholasville Brewers, Racine Gladiators, and Treasure Valley Stars were all placed in the Western Conference. The regular-season winners of the Eastern Conference and Western Conference would meet in a seven-game championship series. There was inter-conference play during the season. ![]() Atlantic City Jokers ![]() Cooperstown Legends ![]() Pittsfield Hillies ![]() Utica Bluesox ![]() Valois Vipers ![]() Wantagh Wallbangers ![]() Worcester Knights ![]() Bellaire Longhorns ![]() Bethel Park Blackhawks ![]() Corvallis Rivermen ![]() Fontana Greyhounds ![]() Nicholasville Brewers ![]() Racine Gladiators ![]() Treasure Valley Stars Last edited by Elendil; 03-23-2005 at 03:00 PM. |

Well, I said I was going to get the league totals right last night and prepare everything for a sim tonight. I lied. We just got back to CT from Buffalo, where we bought a house, and had a lot to do last night. (Spare me the Buffalo jokes; I've heard 'em all.
) Long story short - I'll do league totals tonight, then ask for you the owners to submit your lineups by 6 PM Wednesday if you want to have human management. Sims will generally be Monday-Wednesday-Friday, a half month each time, but the first sim will be Wednesday. If you decide to manage the team you created, you must submit lineups to me before each sim. If you don't, then I'll convert your team to AI for that sim so that your team can get rapid replacements for injuries, etc. If you don't want to make any changes, then tell me that.Any questions?

Go ahead and have the AI set my lineups and all, Elendil. Somewhere down the road, I'll take over as manager. Looking forward to the first sim... it's very, very strange to look at my roster and see all those familiar names.

Website and player pages updated with last-minute changes.
I've also got the league totals all set! It was impossible not to glance at team records while the test sims went. I didn't look at them in detail, but I did notice that all teams seemed fairly balanced. We are ready to go on Wednesday night!

I'll create players every off-season, but you can set the Brewers to AI-managed.

Yeah set the Gladiators to AI managed, too. More realistic that way.

Bugger the AI. I'll manage the Hillies.
Let it ride as it stands right now for the first sim, though. Need to get a base frame of reference here.

Got it. I assume everyone wants the minors managed by the AI, right?
BTW, did anyone notice the names for the managers? Only three teams submitted actual names, so I made up names for the others. I'll be using Catobase to do all the awards (except All-Stars), so I thought it'd be nice to be able to fill out that "Manager of the Year" line. I was thinking the criteria for MVP, BOY, POY, and ROY would be based exclusively on Win Shares, with Gold Gloves determined by Defensive Win Shares. For a subjective category like MOY, maybe a straw poll of team owners would be better.

I have read a bit about the tax revolt in Erie County. Cool stuff. Property taxes are high there, and NY state also has pretty insane income and sales taxes. I hope to get involved with that Free Buffalo organization once I get there. |

I moved to the Buffalo area 3 yrs ago. I'm originally from TN but I lived in central NY for 2-3 yrs first. If you had told me 10 yrs ago I would move to Buffalo, I would've laughed. But I love it here. The people are really great & very community oriented. Plenty of stuff to do throughout the year and within 3 hours of other cities like Toronto, Pittsburgh & Cleveland. Plus, I can't get over how beautiful the view of the lake is going up Rt 5 and over the skyway. I love it. Go Legends! Charlie Smith for BOY! |
