La Liga Mexicana: Run for the Border!

La Liga Mexicana has two openings as it goes into the 2013 post-season.

League Info:
*) Formerly known as CDML (Crash Davis Mexical League), and had a direct association with both CDBL and CDIL (now IBA). When the CDBL folded (after 2006 season), CDML re-configured itself for complete independence, though it does share some indirect relations with IBA still.
*) Fictional, Mexican League. Many teams are real Mexican League teams (past or present), but the players are fictional, as is league history.
*) Sims deadlines are Sunday 8pm, and Tuesday & Thursday at 6pm. Sims are generally 7/8 alternating schedule (with some minor adjustments to keep calendar smooth). Sims are run usually shortly after deadline.
*) 1st season: 2005 (are finishing the 9th season)
*) Teams: 20 (expanded from 16 in 2013). Plans to expand to 24 in 2016.
*) No salary cap. $50M cash cap.
*) Rule 5, Waivers, Minor League Options, MLFA, Arbitration, Signing Bonuses: All are turned On.
*) DH used in all games.
*) Other rules are used by the league to encourage participation and help increase the talent pool. See website or ask for more details.
*) Of the 18 remaining owners, half have been involved with the league in one way or another since at least 2006, if not earlier. Considering 4 of the teams didn't even exist until this current season....

Team 1: Puebla Pericos (Parrots)
*) Retiring owner has been the only owner for the team, and was an owner from day 1.
*) Team was division champs 3 times (2007, 2008, and 2009), and league champs 2 times (2007, 2008). Finished 2nd in 2010 with 102 wins.
*) Team has been going through a retooling/rebuilding phase the past two seasons (finish 2013 with their second consecutive 75-87 record).
*) Has one of the top minor league systems in the league (#4 overall).

Team 2: Monclova Acereros (Steelers)
*) A team with a poor performance history, has improved its record each of the past 5 seasons, including the current one, with their first ever above-.500 record.
*) Clinched their first post-season berth this season (2013) with a league-best 96-66 record. (On the other hand, they were third best in the entire league, behind 118 & 116 wins. But that was the other league.)
*) While current season awards haven't been announced, has the best contenders for batter-of-year & rookie-of-year (same player) and pitcher-of-year.
*) Has only had one owner (since early 2006; prior to that was a Commissioner-controlled team). Current owner -- that would be me -- is relinquishing control due to becoming Commissioner mid-season. If not for that, I'd be keeping this team. :P

If you're interested, or have any questions, please contact me, either by PM or email (click on my name in the sig). (I don't IM, sorry.)

Thanks in advance.

C'mon guys, its a fairly active and competitive league where you don't need to be active to get by, and with some real rivalries developed due to the fact that we don't have a 100% turnover every 4 seasons like many leagues seem to have. Some of the most active traders I've seen, there's always deals being discussed from the end of the post-season thru to the trade deadline; and some are analyzed for seasons beyond. And these are dedicated owners; over half have been with the league for about two RL years. Yes, we have a fictional league instead of a real one, and so you actually have to get to know who the players are instead of watching five minutes of sports center to know who to try to buy. But if you are a fan of the game itself, and not of a bunch of steroid-popping egomaniacs who blame the media for their weaknesses and inabilities to cope with reality, well, then maybe you should check us out.

Puebla's taken. Monclova -- a division champ, people! -- is still available.

Thru the first 4 games of the League series, Monclova is tied 2-2.

Veracruz Rojos del Aguila has become open (again):

Unlike the other teams mentioned in this topic, the Veracruz "Red Eagles" have not had steady ownership for a couple of seasons (three owners over the course of three seasons). Plus, three seasons ago, the owner at the time spent heavily (over $100M in payroll at one point), and the team has lost about $40M since then. But the team's payroll for the coming season is significantly lower.

Despite this, and despite the ownership issues, Veracruz is still competitive, in the race for the division title this past season until mid-September (when the leader pulled away in the last two weeks). An active owner, and more importantly a stable owner, should be able to build on what's already there, and turn this team into a winner in a season or two.

We have another team open (the last one, more than likely):

Campeche Piratas

Another team that's had some shaky ownership in the past, this one had a good owner rebuilding the team the past two seasons. On paper, its a weak team, but it has good prospects, and with some time and a little effort should turn itself around in just a couple of seasons.
