Established Historical-Hybrid League has 2 openings

Greatest Generation Baseball a historical-hybrid league about to complete it's 16th season (we're in the 1956 playoffs right now) has two openings.

GGB started with the 1941 season and the following premise: what would happen if the Second World War hadn't taken so many ballplayers away from the game? The league expanded in 1946 with the addition of four teams (utilizing the bigger player pool from the extra wartime players) and again in 1954 (this time utilizing the Pacific Coast League which had an "open" classification in the 50s).

The teams available are the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians. The league will be realigning in 1957 back to an East-West divisional format (we've played 3 seasons in a North-South alignment because of the 1954 expansion).

The Tigers are a former powerhouse in rebuilding mode and still have some talent: Bobby Thomson, coming off his best season (54 HRs, 136 RBI) and Jim Busby (.302-20-93 with 33 SBs) anchor the offense. The pitching corps includes Bob Lemon, who had an off-year, and Moe Burtschy (18-11 3.41 ERA). The incoming crop of Tiger rookies (we draft 2 seasons ahead of debut) includes Johnny Roseboro, with Felipe Alou coming on in 1958.

The Indians are in more dire straits. They have Juan Pizarro (1957) and Juan Fairly (1958) coming and already have Bobby Richardson, Tito Francona, and Dick Schofield down on the farm. The big league club features Hank Bauer and Danny Schell on offense with Turk Lown heading the pitching staff.

The Tigers offer more opportunity for a rapid turnaround, but the Tribe could be a good fit for a builder-extraordinaire.

The GMs in the league are all knowledgeable, friendly and competitive and trading is frequent. GGB uses most of the financial rules available in OOTP (waivers being the biggest one not used) including Rule 5 draft.

The 1957 off-season will begin on Monday 3/28.

The Tigers opening has been filled - the original GM of the team has returned to the fold.

The Indians remain available and the Kansas City Royals are also available.

The Royals' roster includes Roy Campanella, Nellie Fox and Joe Adcock with Hal Newhouser anchoring the staff. The star of the team is 1B Johnny Groth who has ratings of (10-7-7-6-10 on the 10-pt scale used by GGB). This team is weaker than the Tribe, but with the right GM and some shrewd manuevering could climb right into contention in the revamped AL West in 1957.

The league is full. Thanks to all those who checked us out.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you'd like to get in with the next available opening.
