The following fix has seemed to slow/solve my problems
run dxdiag turn the hardware acceleration off for sound1 and sound2 if it is being used. Furthermore I disabled direct3D. |

These questions are difficult to answer since no one else, here, has your system, or likely has seen this problem. Tough to suggest a solution when you haven't had that particular problem.
![]() From a technical standpoint, a runtime error is not a good sign - not is it necessarily the game's fault. In short, the game was expecting something it didn't find. By default, that means the configuration of your machine at that instant was not what the game was expecting - which means it is different than what was tested against. Historically, the audio and sound drivers are the root problems of most issues. SInce they are updated so often, and based on the capabilities of the subject board(s), there basically is no standard - just a guideline that is set by Microsoft, and more or less followed by the manufacturers. The best thing to do is (1) make sure you have the latest audio and vidio drivers for your machine as well as for DirectX. This will, in most cases allow the game to work AT LEAST with the sound off. Another thing you might try that's been mentioned recently is to set your screen resolution to something higher than 1024x768. Since DirectX affects both audio and video drivers, there may be a problem on some machines when the resolution is set to OOTPs default of 1024x768. Hope this helps.
