4 consecutive Cy Young Awards!!

Anyone seen a pitcher get 4 straight Cy Young awards??

Using Halofan's latest roster, Adam Wainwright has been almost unstoppable.

He won the Cy Young in 2007/08/09/10! Finally, my stud Sean Burnett took the honors in 2011 witn a 25-1 record and a 1.91 ERA and although Wainwright had he better ERA (1.70), he went just 23-3 for St. Louis.... just?

Wainwright's stats for the last 5 seasons:
YR W L ERA IP BoB K's CG ShO WHiP
2007 22 8 1.94 251.0 55 253 6 2 0.98 STL,NL CY YOUNG
2008 24 5 2.01 286.2 36 266 10 5 0.88 STL,NL CY YOUNG
2009 21 4 2.33 220.1 15 189 8 4 0.89 STL,NL CY YOUNG
2010 26 6 1.91 282.2 16 277 10 3 0.83 STL,NL CY YOUNG
2011 23 3 1.70 260.0 26 246 13 8 0.89 STL,NL

Very good showing. Do you have the rest of his numbers?

i had a guy in a fictional league go 3 straight from age 23-25. He was on his way to another one when my fan in my computer stopped working and my motherboard fried.

I think I'm going to cry just thinking about it.

John Isabelle of the NGBL just won his third AL Cy Young in four seasons. Getting better with age as he was 33, 35 & 36 years old when winning the awards.

Not too far off from what Maddux did from 92-95, when he won 4 straight.

Using CBL's 2.0 rosters, I've had Roy Halladay win 5 of 6 CY's in simmed seasons (it's really 6 of 7 counting the one in real life).

The year he didn't win he still went 24-4, 2.75 ERA, 264.2 IP, 229 K, 1.10 WHIP.

Well I tried to do a chart but not sure how...

Here's Burnett's stats. He's who beat Wainwright in '11 for the Cy Young. You'll see, he wasn't too far off from him either:

[FONT=Fixedsys]Year G GS W L SV ERA IP HA R ER HR BB K CG SHO WHIP Teams

That 20-win mark dodged Sean for two straight years but finally in '11 he made sure he got to 20 winning 25 and losing just 1.

Now looking at the '11 numbers, in real life, I think Wainwright would have won again. If you look, the only numbers Burnett was better in was wins and losses.

In case you're wondering, Wainwright is 30, Burnett 29.

In my solo league (using CBL 2.0 rosters), Mark Buehrle has won 3 of the last 4 Cy Young Awards (and the year he didn't win it, my #2 pitcher did), and 4 in his career.

Pedro Martinez, in my alternate baseball history league, has won 9 Cy Youngs and were it not for bone chips shortening his 2001 season, would have very likely won 9 in a row from 1998-2006. As it turned out, his consecutive Cy Young streak is merely 5 in a row (2002-2006).

Dizzy Dean holds the record for consecutive Cy Youngs in my league. He won 6 in a row from 1937-1942.

A writeup about Dean from a previous thread:

Dizzy Dean (1932-1950)

Dizzy Dean was a part of the very first rookie draft of the USBL. Drafted #5 overall by the Detroit Racers in 1932, he would be a fixture on the mound in the Motor City until the end of the 1938 season.

Dean would win 14 games his rookie year and had a league leading 2.87 ERA. He would improve to 15 wins in 1933, avoiding the dreaded sophomore slump leading to a 22 win season the next year. After a ho-hum year of 12 wins in 1935, folks started to wonder if he was burning out as he put up a lot of innings. He would respond in 1937 by beginning the greatest stretch by any pitcher ever in the history of the USBL.

Most pitchers would be happy to win 1 Cy Young Award. 2 would make them ecstatic. 6 in a row? Only Dizzy can lay claim to that feat. From 1937 to 1942, Dean would win 26, 27, 22, 28, 28 and 34 games (the latter a single season record that still stands). In case you thought that a good offense had to help him some, he led the league in ERA each of those years. He would win just 17 games in 1943 but in 1944 and 1945 he would win two more Cy Youngs, for a total of 8.

It was the postseason where Dean hit some road blocks. In 1937 he would win 2 games and take home his only World Series ring. His next four appearances in the World Series he would only go 2-5 with a combined career WS ERA of 5.06.

In 1948, after 17 years with Detroit, Dean would sign with the Minneapolis Millers where he go 11-15. He would end his career the next year at age 40 after a 10-16 season with the Cincinnati Pioneers. His 376 career wins are the most all-time, as are his 447 CG and 51 shutouts. His 3.02 ERA is 29th and he is 9th in losses with 216. He ranks 4th in starts with 684 and 10th with 3,249 strikeouts.

**Fun Fact**
Dizzy Dean and his brother Paul spent 5 seasons as teammates. In 1942 they would have a combined record of 57-19. Paul's 233 wins gave the brothers a combined career total of 609 wins. Paul's biggest problem was that he had 250 losses to go with his 233 wins.

Won Johnson Award in 2009, going 26-5, 1.57 ERA...
Won Johnson Award in 2010, going 22-8, 1.56 ERA...
Back in OOTP 3..I had two pitchers on my team where one of them won the Cy Young 16 straight seasons. My ace had 9 my # 2 guy had 7. Don't believe either had a streak of more than 3 years in a row though.

Halladay on my team in my online league is on a 3 year streak, pretty much guaranteed it again this year, and with no one ever coming close to him, barring serious injury he looks like he'll win it the next few years too. In 2005, he put up a great year, but came second to Zito in a close call

Not too bad. Likely going to win 300 games, which is almost impossible in the modern era, especially when you only have 18 wins by the time you're 25.

Ends his career with 11 Walter Johnson Awards, in the bolded years. He was better than Cy, so in the 1950s I renamed the award after him. And this league was very fair, I was meticulous with matching up League Totals. He was just that good.

He actually wasn't all that much worse in real life, but in this league, he pitched more often, since I owned the team, and I backed him up with a great offense, so his wins swelled tremendously.

Don Drysdale had six straight in an online league

http://www.legendsport.com/baseball/...ite/index.html

In the same league:

Ferguson Jenkins - 3 straight
Al Downing - 3 straight
Don Drysdale - 3 straight (a seperate streak than the 6 straight)
Earl Johnson - 4 straight
Joe Sullivan - 3 straight

There might be more, but the history doesn't show the first 30 years of Cy Young winners. All of those streaks from one league and an online league at that.

EDIT - Milt Wilcox had 3 straight in an online league also (Wild Things)

Also, in TWB, I believe Andrew Murphy won 9 straight.
