Fort Worth Work in Progress
It seems that I end up sending in 3-4 entries for each logo competition, when I would probably be better off focusing on 1-2. The Jacksonville contest is a good example, I sent in 5 and there was only room for 4, and the one not included (posted on another thread) probably would have gotten more votes than a few that did make it into the contest.
Well after the Fort Worth name was announced I have had several nights that I seem to be churning with ideas again. Instead of sending in a multitude of entries I would like to eliminate some before hand. This might also give some insight to the process some of us go through. I like to try new things, I have never been a big fan of the typical circle logo, but finally did one for the Jacksonville contest. So what I would like to do here is to post some of the things I'm trying and get some feedback before I send in entries for the contest. Tell me what you think, alot of this is personal taste and what you thinks sucks I may like anyway and vica versa. To start I have fallen back on a style I used to do the logos for the NML, more to follow.

I still like to incorporate large letters for the city, here are some that I'm considering.

This one uses a style that I have used for a logo set. This one actually has a true black background so that only text, diamond and graphic show up in the game. I should probably show a screen shot of this one.

nmleague:
I liked your round logos #11 and #14. I also thought the one with the black transparency has possibilities. I think these three would be your best bets...imho they are far superior to the others. Excellent bucking bronc and rider...really captures the spirit of the nickname. Suggestions: #11/#14...make the horse/rider smaller so it will fit inside the circle and not interfere with the lettering...this will give it a clearer and less cluttered look...imo lettering looks better at the top and bottom of the circle...and not off center...make the background white, so the logo will stand out with better contrast...and I would choose colors that would sparkle and dazzle...that might make the logo appealing to the eye...the green, brown and yellow gold on the beige or light sandy background kind of blend together rather than offer good contrast. Black transparency logo...make horse/rider image and the diamond smaller, so they don't interfere with the lettering...make the diamond white so the horse/rider will show up better...pick some colors that will grab your eye rather than all blend together...try to make Buckeroos in script with a tail on it to give it some pizazz. Hope this helps. Last edited by Eugene Church; 02-24-2005 at 11:22 PM. |

EC thanks for the feedback, will play around with your suggestions. In the meantime I came up with this one. Just added a second version. And another.

I think the colors are much better...but don't like the angle of the logo...F. W. is too small, too. But the branding idea is excellent...so I guess it has to be that small...it wouldn't be a brand if you made it larger...The white background seemed to make the horse/rider stand out much better imo.
If possible, I like lettering to show up well in the game. ![]() Make Buckeroos and the horse/rider a little less slanted or diagonal. Hopefully some of the expert designers will offer some observations to help you perfect it. Last edited by Eugene Church; 02-25-2005 at 12:29 PM. |

Some real good ones in here. I'm partial to the one with the diamond in post 4 -- I like when baseball logos incorporate a baseball theme! And yet it's not too busy.
Nice job, nmleague.

#16 would be my pick for the best one so far.
Since 'FT. W" is white, it may show up pretty well in the game...like the brand idea...colors are eyecatching...great Buckeroos font...excellent contrast...the horse/rider show up great...like the rider's shirt color...it goes well with the orange lettering and orange/brown background...reducing the angle made it easier for me to read...good job. Well this helped me eliminate a few, refine some, and get ideas for more. I have narrowed it down to 6, here are the six in screen shots from the game.

#2 and #4...the round and semi-round logos really show up well in the game screens you posted...both have a sense of movement...well done. Last edited by Eugene Church; 02-25-2005 at 01:26 PM. |
